CJ WATER TEMPS AND FISHING...A New Year and a New Thread....All the other past yearly threads are in the archives.
Don't forget we have a breakfast on Saturday Jan 6th at 8am....at the Cracker Barrel, exit 54 off of I70.
Will gladly give the old COE original survey maps (1964) to whom ever would make further and profitable use of them ( and arrange a trip upon our by then safely frozen CJ Brown)... See you Jan 6th at 8Am !
I'll take them....that way when we LEGALLY start planting again, we have a starting point of reference!
ALOT has changed since 64, but history is always nice to have, in case its needed.
So where would be the best area to try to fish again I have never been there and it is a bit of a drive and how do you fish for them as I have only fished the Maumee river during the run

The Walleye in CJ are shad driven, every single one I have caught have shad in their bellies.
Most Gators stay under the schools of shad, always moving...in low light conditions where the Gators sight is an advantage, they feed!
Where they are one day, they aren't the next...shad try to stay in open water, like Mullet, to survive...always trying to keep room to move when needed...in spring, shad sometimes look for water that is 2 degrees warmer, what a downfall.
Predators are always looking to move shad into ambush areas...Gators have the advantage of HD night vision.
Maumee fishing is nothing like this....if you don't understand shad and their Movement and Patterns, you won't be able to find Walleye consistently at CJ. The Gators only downfall is their need for plenty of oxygen, and cover placed in resting areas...that cover allows them, when needed, to rest close to shad highways, not Walleye highways!
That is the riddle of the CJ Walleye!
"Glo" ice jigs and various spoons/ flashies on ice poles strongly recommended, have also " helicoptered " wax worms paired on a #10 triple hook, slowly feeding this flyweight offering ever deeper with no weight whatsoever. Any sudden line tightness ain't the current... Outside curve of the Marina S breakwater, take your cats claws and rope just in case ! Good luck !
Nice breakfast this morning with Nine CJ "friends" showing up to catch up!
Got my Crappie pen from Jeff Borda, and my jigs from Jeff (Crappiedreamer jigs).
Always nice to see Fritz "The CJ Godfather" alias CJpolecat.
I really like that pen what that run ya

I have a couple of his other Fishing pens, and Dale has a .50 cal pen.
They are my work pens and are really nice...the ink he puts in them, and the quality is Fantastic!
This is my other Crappie pen...also have a Nice Walleye one that I keep for "Good"!
We don't get any better lookin' either...but some of our stories get better each time we meet! Lol
Great Bunch of guys...and a bunch of VERY GOOD fishermen!
My sincerest apologies to all the "Friends" , was required to come in early and WORK ( BOO ! Hiss !) at 8AM today. Brent, will ensure you get those maps, they may yet be of use to you. Missed being with you all !
We will have another breakfast in February....I have to work the last 2 weekends in January, so we'll try for early Feb.
Sounds good to me and I think Saturday morning works best for those that have yet to work had enough to retire ! :)
Need an ice report am going out Sunday with the SO...
Update, was going out in the late afternoon/ dusk, was going to try the hump at the mouth of the Marina. No longer have an auger or sonar but am willing to share a few ' secrets' if anyone is willing to provide said items. Am trying to ' interest' her in ice fishing, she really thinks that the fish go all winter without eating, would sorely LOVE to prove otherwise. Am willing to make it worth anyone's time to join us... Thanks !
Part of the pleasure of working with Keitech, is they will take your recommendations for baits, colors, etc., and if they see a need, will make them.
I submitted a request for a better perch color, a black/blue, and asked for a real shad color....whether they took my recommendations or not, they more than perfectly came up with what my "System" for fishing was lacking....they actually outdid what I wanted!
The SHAD is amazing....my pics do it zero justice....the top of the body is a gray/tan that switches to blue, they managed to duplicate the iridesence of the shads body in all types of light...shiny silver to electric blue with other rainbow hues in varying light.
I took all the other Shad colors out of my tackle box....today!
The Perch color that Kei came up with, will drive the CJ and Erie Gators nuts! I received the new 3 inch ones today for Crappie, and the 4 inchers for Gators a few weeks ago.
One of my most favorite night time or dark sky or dark water color is Black/Blue...I couldn't have wished for a better done color...the blue glows, the black with sparkles ties the colors together...this is the best black/blue color that I have ever seen.
I also received the 3 inch alewife...all I can say is the fish in CJ, have no chance against me this year.
I waited a long time to PERFECT my color palate for the way I fish...other than a 3.5 inch Mad Wag in the new colors, I am fulfilled....and ready to hurt the area lakes!
Oh...and the 5.8 and 7.8 inch Shad swimmers...will be for BIG BASS LAKES....with a 10/0 hook!
Pretty !
Are these colors available in the US, or Japan only?
I have a buddy that makes custom colors and I haven't fished a commercial bait since how do these hold up and how many in a bag and what do they run

All the info is on KeitechUSA - Keitech Baits in the USA.
The squid scent and salt are infused in the Keitech silicones....the scent lasts the life of the bait, they are softer than most plastics, that's why they have incredible action.
If you want to increase their life and save some $$$, buy some MEND-IT. MEND-IT is a special "Super" glue that bonds plastic but does not get hard like Regular Superglue. When you fuse plastics with MEND-IT they stay soft and flexible...I have made Frankenstein Keitech swimbaits buy cutting the belly off one and putting it on another, adding bigger paddles, or making other color combos.
Made it out for about 90 minutes, Rusty made it out to the hump but no tooth fairies...
Thanks for your response. I use Keitech products a lot. Love them! But I know certain products are not sold in the US, the reason I asked. I would hope someday they will sell the mini wags here. Great crappie catchers!
