Here are a couple couple si and di shots of a bridge. I really like the 73sv. I purchased a 73 sv non chirp for up front. I am using the US2 sonar on the Terrova for it.

That DownVu shot is the coolest ...!!

Awesome pics. Nothing wrong with either!
Very nice pics.
btw I noticed that your speed is not displayed. Mine does that now and then, if I BACK out of the screen and come back in, it always shows up. IDK why. Curious as to what speed you were moving, the shots are great.
I believe I turned the speed off on the unit in the overlay settings. I wanted as little info as possible on the screen. I was just cruising along with the boat in gear. I would say i was going roughly 2 mph with my chart speed set to "fast" At first all i seen was just a column with my downscan so I then decided to do a little more searching in the area and thats when i found the bridge and decided to then go back and do a sidescan to see what it would look like. I actually had the coordinates of this bridge from the Lake Hartwell map plugged into my unit weeks ago and found some of the columns, but did not find that structure until yesterday.
Awesome shot, that is way cool.
great pictures
GREAT pics. If you have more, please ....
(You said non chirp, but I think you meant Chirp? )

Here is a shot I took. I believe these may be some garfish. They were in the area while crappie fishing. Thoughts?

Here is a bridge shot of columns of a current interstate and another underwater bridge shot
Don't know how anybody could not appreciate those pics. Guessing you are still in the 2mph range. GT52 does a really good job. I, like you, usually stay on 455 for sv and dv, tho some say 800 is better for sv. Depends on the conditions and wants I think. 2d shots are very good as I would expect. I'm really happy with my 93 chirp. I need to learn how to upload pics. Anyway, awesome pics and thank you for taking the time to share.
Teedee:
While out the other day I did check the speed display and I have it turned off in the overlay setting. When I am structure hunting I have the throttle just in gear. Its about 2mph. To upload pics, you have to click on the picture icon at the top of the quick reply box. Its to the right of the earth like icons. A box will pop up that says insert image. Then click on "from computer". Sometimes you have to click in the bottom right corner where it says "basic image" or something like that. Then you click on choose file. Pick the file from your computer file that you want and then click open. You will then see your pic in the box with the picture name displayed. Click on upload file. You may have to wait a few seconds or a minute for it to upload. I made this mistake several times by not giving the picture enough time to upload. Your picture will then be inserted into the quick reply box. I hope to get back out soon and get some more shots!!!

What are the settings that show up the best on DI on the 73SV?
Scroll: medium
Brightness: low
Contrast: default
Frequency: 455 20ft and deeper
Screen color: amber
Hard to argue with those settings when you see returns like that. Keep in mind that things can change during the day, or lake to lake. Be willing to adjust your unit accordingly for water clarity, cloudy/sunny skies, etc. None of these things have 'set it and forget it' features. But I would always keep returnimg to my tried and true base--such as fishinranger has provided. Use that and tweak it to find what really is the best thing for you and your unit/ducer etc.
I do think that the contrast should be left on default. You can adjust it a little higher if need be. Maybe up to 70 to 75 %. Anything above that and the screen will get a little too hot. Everything will start to shot a bright look which I think may get confusing when it comes to identifying fish since a fish symbol on dv will be a bright return.

Here is a shot of a brushpile that I found in side view and then in downview. I was searching with the side scan and then saw this interesting bp and used my cursor to then mark a waypoint on it. Once i got back to the general vicinity i then searched with the downview and located it and then marked a more accurate waypoint. Im hoping this bp holds more fish in the future. I believe there are a few fish located on it from the screenshot.
I used the black emerald quite a bit early on. Pretty much settled in to inverse gray or one of the browns. Use the one you have on dv. Great pics, TY. Looks like a half dozen or so don't you think?
Yes, bigger fish it would appear. BTW looks like several in and around the BP on the left side too.
Pulled the trigger on a 73sv Chrip, but not installed yet. I will use these
DI settings as a 'starting point', but, was wondering if you could summarize
some 'general' settings/thoughts from your experience for those of us new to DI and SI to help get us started.
Great pics - definitely a consideration in my purchase.
Thanks.....
Klyross:
I am pretty new to all of this myself. I came from a $99 unit to two $900 units. One of the main things that helped me was going out on the lake without fishing poles and testing out the unit. I did this 4 or 5 times until I finally saw images that I was satisfied with. I also read my manual pretty thoroughly and still continue to do so . Pages 18 to 22 have some very valuable info. "Adjusting the level of detail and color intensity on page 20 is very important. "Sonar alarm setting" is important also. Make sure to set the "fish" alarm so you will be alerted to suspended fish. My units have alerted me to fish numerous times when I have not been watching the screen. When in side view make sure that your motor is trimmed up so it won't interfere with your sonar. You may notice a distorted line along the screen along side the line that indicayes the boat/ transducer.I have noticed on my boat that if the motor is trimmed down, I will get some interference that messes with my returns. Sideview should be set roughly to about 3x the wayer depth. 10 ft of water equals 30 ft side view range.
There are tons of threads here to help you out. I have learned tons from the threads here. Rickie/mvinc is a very knowledgeable guy here. Check out some of the sonar quizzes that are on the side imaging forum.
Good luck with your new unit!!!
Here are a few tips from this site:
looking for suspended fish close to the boat set Imaging frequency to 800kHz, SI Range to 10-15ft more than water depth (water depth 30ft = SI Range 45ft)... and adjust SI Sensitivity up to contrast the white dot echoes against the dark water column background (Contrast on Lowrance)(Gain on Garmin) ... And slow the boat down (or increase Chart speed) to elongate fish echoes where they will be easier to see ...
*If looking for fish relatively close to the boat set Imaging frequency to 800kHz, SI Range to 20-30ft more than water depth (water depth 30ft = SI Range 55ft) and adjust Sensitivity up/down to contrast white dot echoes against the darker bottom background (Contrast on Lowrance)(Gain on Garmin) ...and slow the boat down (or increase Chart speed) to elongate fish echoes where they will be easier to see ...
If looking for new structure set Imaging frequency to 455kHz, SI Range to 40-60ft more than water depth (water depth 30ft = SI Range 80ft) and adjust Sensitivity up/down to look for structure shadows (Contrast on Lowrance)(Gain on Garmin) ... And match boat speed to Chart speed (2-4mph on Lowrance because they don't have Chart speed adjustment) ...
Thanks much for the info - looking at your pics again, this stuff could be
almost (I say almost ...) as much fun as fishing :fish

Got these shots yesterday evening. Every once in a while, I will stray away from crappie fishing and go striper fishing with umbrella rigs. I came across this on the depthfinder and said "OH BOY"...5, 4, 3, 2, 1...and both rods went ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnggggggggggggg! !!! The fight was on.
Good shots were you casting or trolling. I bought the 9 in garmin but I have not taken the time to get used to it.
I was trolling with my big motor with umbrella rigs!

Came across this again while out fishing. Big school of stripers!!!
ive been seeing a lot of returns that look like this recently. I know wood typically doesn't show a good return on the 2D, would this suggest that here are crappie or some sort of fish held up tight against the trees?
ive been wondering about this, glad I came across this screenshot.
As you can see the screenshot is in 2d and Downimaging. It is the same structure that you are seeing on both. The down shows the structure a lot better. On the top picture you can see a few fish (white dots) on the screen. Thats why its good to always have a split screen distinguishing the two.
Cedar will inherently not reflect as much Sonar sound pulse as hardwood ...
Sonar discerns targets by their difference in density of the target from the density of the water itself ...
Cedar boughs have a very similar density as water (well ... more similar density than hardwood) ...
