What does a school of crappie look like on your fish finder screen?
I'll pull the card from my finder tonight and post what they look like to me. I marked some pretty good schools this week on drop that went from 14 foot to 20 foot. As soon as I saw the school I told my daughter to get ready the poles will be bending any second. Before I finished my sentence 4 poles bent over. She was pretty amazed and I was happy I didn't look like a fool.
Thanks, I look forward to the post.
I take lots of screen shots and study them when I get home. There is no way I can see all that is going on while on the water. Here are a few with some comments. Some of these shots are late Fall as you can tell by the water temperature.
One of my favorites--active fish feeding on bait and resting fish near the bottom.

Similar location and same fish action.

One from this Summer--not much bait, but these are crappie because we caught some of them.

On my screen, when I'm lucky enough to have time to reach over and take a screenshot, Crappie look a lot like this :

I notice most of these shots (thanks for posting, by the way) look like they were taken when the boat was drifting or, very slow troll. I have a HB 597 and I quit using the DI, because I rarely saw the fish on it than with the regular sonar. I might have to re-visit that because these DI images are amazing. Mine is o.k. For structure, tho.
I've learned to use nothing but the DI. Like you said, the DI is amazing. Very seldom do I anchor up anymore unless it's crazy windy or sometimes when I have the lights out. I'll take some side images the next time I'm out. Those are pretty cool too and I'm still learning that feature.
DI is my number #1 screen when it is over 10' deep. It's nice to know what is going on around the boat, but I MUST KNOW what is happening under the boat. Here's a shot I took today on Jordan. Looks like 5 or 6 predator fish feeding on the rear of this huge school of baitfish. There have been numerous times over the past couple of years that I have told Charles to get ready for a bite and sure enough, it happens.

My DI is not as powerful, I'm sure. But, it will show structure, as I said. I'm going to experiment with it some more. Maybe I don't have it on the correct setting.
THEY ARE SOME GREAT SHOTS,BUT THE REST OF YOU GUYS REMEMBER THAT THOSE SHOTS WERE TAKEN FROM TRUE DI,WHEN USING DI ON SI HUMMINBIRD EXCEPT ONIX WHICH JORDAN LIMIT IS USING, THE PICTURES ON DI IS COMPUTED FROM SI AND MOST OF THE TIME WILL NOT LOOK LIKE THESE PIC.LOWRANCE SI HAS TRUE DI ,SURE WISH HUMMINGBIRD WOULD DO IT ON ALL SI UNITS.I HAVE A 1199 AND I PUT A 859 DI ON CONSOLE WITH IT SO I CAN GET TRUE DI AND SI AT THE SAME TIME,MUCH BETTER PIC THAT WAY
BY THE WAY GUYS WITH A SWITCH AND A SPLITTER CORD AND A DI DUCER ,YOU CAN MAKE YOUR SI INTO TRUE DI THEN SWITCH BACK TO SI ANY TIME YOU LIKE BUT SI IS NOT RECORDING INFORMATION WHILE ON DI AND VISE VERSE,IT STARTS ONLY WHEN YOU SWITCH TO THAT SETTING
Can I make a screen shot with my map chip installed or do I have to install a memory chip?
Depends on how many card slots your unit has ... so if there's only the one slot, then you would need a memory chip to capture a screenshot, since the map chips are "read only" and won't allow new info to be added. Your User Manual should show you what sequence & combinations of buttons to push to get a screenshot.
If your computer doesn't have a card reader, you'll have to purchase the card & reader as a "kit". Micro SD cards & reader kits are not very expensive. I bought a thumb drive reader, adapter card, and micro sd 2GB chip as a kit, online, for less than $10 ... several years ago ... and prices haven't changed much, since.
Our Onix has two card slots--one for the GPS chip and one for recording screenshots and saving routes/waypoints.
Thanks for the info.

Best shot I've ever taken. Crappie school on left and brushpile on the right.
Dang Gabepeeps, if I saw that many crappie on a screen shot I'd figure I was in Georgia.....I would have fished all over myself. Nice, very nice indeed.
Limit catch every trip last year, November thru March.

A stream of water from flooded wetlands into a creek; the stream contained food that baby shad liked. You can see the hazy cloud of shad (hundreds of them). Every crappie was full of baby shad. I probably would have not found this spot without side imaging. I had scanned much of the creek and saw absolutely nothing except a faint blur of spots in one place on the opposite shore. I made a closer scan (shown here) and thought, WOW!, this looks like a bonanza. I dropped jigs on two poles and the fun began. I had to put away one of the poles. I had my limit in 20 minutes and was culling fish for 2 hours. Ended up with a limit of all fish that were over 12 inches.
