Thanks for that link Steve
I saw his videos when I bought my Glock. Shoots the same as I do. I'm right hand and left eye dominant. I shoot a rifle or shot gun left handed but a pistol right handed. Then throw a baseball with my left hand and a football with my right lol
I have never understood why someone would want to try and learn to shoot with their non-dominate eye..It can be done..but with allot more effort..One of the first things I always did was check eye dominance . If it was left then we shot left..if it was right then we shot right....Have heard all kinds of excuses for not switching, but all students did better after the switch.. This was including many rifle, shotgun, and pistol students
I can shoot with either one. We trained to shoot either eye and either hand. Just in case your hand or arm is wounded.
That guy in the video is good....real good.
Everyone should practice strong hand, weak hand techniques.. Most of the time you will still be using your dominate eye, and not realize it. Cross-firing is not an acceptable technique to be encouraged in my opinion. Period
Whats wrong with it Don? If your hitting the target and not shooting wild.
From a teaching standpoint... It is not the proper way to learn to shoot..You have to work harder to shoot that way..Yes, it can be done..a pistol is not so bad, but when you switch to a rifle or shotgun, it can be down right painful. I have seen people even get bloody noses..normally, your skill level will increase when you use the correct hand/eye combination. Anyway, that is what I teach...
I was talking about hand guns....thats the way I was taught to be able to shoot either eye either hand. Long guns I shoot right handed right eye......I was taught to shoot with both eyes open though.
I'm hitting but I've only ran maybe 50-60 rounds through a pistol. I need ALOT of practice. Kinda thinking about a little course for me and the wifey. I'd like to get our conceal carry. You can open carry now but I don;t want to advertize I'm carrying
You can get concealed carry permit without a class but....to get your permit enhanced where you have more privileges you have to take a class from a certified instructor. The class is a good thing...You also have to pass a shooting test and that's a good thing too.
If I were wanting to get one, I would go with enhanced..remember the "permit classes" are not set up to teach you to shoot..They are set up to show you are qualified to shoot. I have see people show up with a new gun still in the box, expecting to learn how to shoot that day. I highly recommend a basic handgun training for everyone wanting to carry. An untrained person can do more harm than good in a stressful situation
I agree Don
It seems that I have heard before, but how do you check to see which eye is dominate?
To check eye dominance ...touch your thumb and trigger finger of each hand together to form a circle..fully extend your arms...with both eyes open..focus on some object that will fit inside the circle...close both eyes...WITHOUT moving your arms...open one eye.see where the object is in the circle..close your eyes, then open the other eye...one eye will have the object perfectly centered...the other eye will have the object moved to the side...the perfect centered side is your master eye..
