If a Kroger store is close to you it pays to buy everything through them.
Bi-Lo has a cents off program also, but not as lucrative as Kroger. With their discount last week I paid $1.58/gal which was .15 off regular price. If you buy certain targeted items at Bi-LO you can get a dollar or two off, but if you aren't careful you'll buy stuff you probably did not need just to get discount.
While working in Nashville, TN I got a Home Depot fuel card. The limit was 20 gallons for up to $1 off for each 100 points. 1 point for every $10 spent in the store. I brought the card to the Memphis area and don't get any points. I sent an email to the company, "that's an area thing, we don't have any control over it."
Our gas got down to $1.72 for a day then jumped right back up to $1.89. I hate having only one wholesaler who sells to all the local stations. Our gas is typically a dime higher than local communities.
We've been 177.9 for nearly three weeks. Nothing extra to buy, no programs to enroll in or tricks to get you to buy stuff you don't need just to get more off a price per gallon.
Wannabe is UGLY!!!!
Some of these other stations will offer, "buy 3 drinks, or something and save 0.10 per gallon, up to 10 gallons.
The sad part is I live just a few miles from one of the main distribution terminals off the Mississippi.Everyone gets there gas there then hauls it around....but sometimes gas will be cheaper 50 miles away....even though they hauled it that extra milage.Crazy ain't it? And yeah some of them have their additives they put in(at least they are suppose to if its marketed that way) but It all comes from the same place.I am sure their is a lot I don't know about it,not sure how many grades or variants they have on those barges when they off load.Been a while since I just set and watched them.
Most everything is automated nowadays. Driver has a card for each company they haul for. Has to be a order placed through the refinery, he pulls up to the rack and inserts a card for that load, it automatically add's the proper amount of the proper ad dative for that load. Only thing up in this area I had trouble with was I had to manually add winter and additive to my Diesel tanks for my drivers who went up north up until mid December. Then I could get it at refinery added to the tanker.
