My favorite hat is a cheap GI style boonie cap.
I wear a hat that looks like it belonged to the French Foreign Legion, Sahara Desert.
Long flap that comes of sides by ear and down to 2-3 below collar in back.
They easily come off and or go on via velcrol - saves the ears, neck, forehead and
my nose - not to swift on cheek bones (reflection off water will get that)
Can be found Bass Pro - Dick's - Sports Authority - Some Walmart stores,
Beals outlet
I love this hat for the summer...has a neck strap and a pull tight around the band so it will fit anyone and not blow off. Only problem is it doesn't have CRAPPIE.COM on it!!
Attachment 202900 flimsy not stiff...you can even scratch your head without taking it off!:Rofl
Google "sun buff". This is a tube material that is worn on the head/face. Protects ears, neck and face from sun rays.
Some have laser cut holes to permit easier breathing and prevent fogging to your eyewear.
They may seem pricy, but weigh the cost against surgery for removing cancer cells. The voice of experience.
Anything with a large brim or drapes, I tried the buff and did not care for them(but I am a tad claustrophobic) I am using boonies and the columbia's like Speckanator shows now, but will be going to get me another lifeguard hat soon (favorite of all I have tried). Here ya go O'Neill Sonoma Straw Lifeguard Hat | Bealls Florida
I use a couple different Flats type caps with big Bill and flap for ears and neck. On the flap I sewed a couple of tabs of Velcro and made a short strap to attach below chin. Keeps wind from blowing flap back. Also last year I found a boonie style hat that had a built in flap for ears and neck. Got it at a tractor supply for only 9.00. Also tried the buffs and really could not stand them. Need to wear something for sure. I have made several trips to get spots taken off my ears and face. One really bad one on nose.
I use a Columbia cap with the tuck away neck covering. I also use a Columbia neck gaiter or hoorag to protect the face. A cooling towel is a must mine is made by Frogg Toggs. Also plan trips from daylight til 10 or so and just 3 hours before dark. No reason to fish in the middle of day. Bites are usually slow with the bright bluebird days and clear water. Night time can be great too. Bugs can get you at night without proper precautions.

Frogg Toggs Chilly Pads. Never heard of these, they sound like something I could really use. I sweat at the drop of a hat!
Where is a good place to buy these chilly pads?
Thanks again,

I fish some in Florida and a couple of years ago I found the "buff", which is just a semi elastic material that is really cool to wear. I never thought I'd like something like this around my neck and face but I love it. I keep it down around my neck until it starts to heat up, then I pull it up around my ears. It fits under a cap, so I like wearing a baseball style cap and this protects my neck and ears.
I never would have bought one, but my Florida buddy that I fish with loaned me one and I really liked it, so I got one a Walmart in Clewiston for around $15.
I have tried the Buff, but I couldn't get used to it being around my neck. Maybe the one I had was too small for my big neck. LOL
Make sure the hat has a dark color underneath the bill like the Columbia and the straw hat. It makes a big difference.
Buff, ballcap, and glasses.
I forced myself to get use to the neck buff. I thought I knew what pain was until my first bald head burn........... Never again no matter how much the discomfort may be.
