Does any know if you can get a boat on Pymatuning yet?
They were still ice fishing on it last week. With reports of a foot of ice still. A few IDIOTS were out on it. It's going to be a late spring up there this year. With eyes hitting around the 3rd week of April if not later. The big bite might occur when the season opens in all the rest of the state in May It's going to take at least a month to get the water temps in the 50's. Should start to see some reports of crappies being caught towards the end of April.
Just saw a post over at Fish USA that the lake is still locked up with only open water at spillway and under the bridges.
I was there Saturday and it looks pretty solid yet, the docks at Linesville were still frozen in
Thanks all guess we are going to have to wait.
Was there Sunday , had maybe a dozen fishermen at Tuttle and maybe a dozen guys out near Stewart. Spillway was open. I would expect more openwater this week. Was told ice was thining quickly. Titghtlines
thanks all... My father and I are chomping at the bit to chase some of those slab crappie and tasty eyes.
I was there yesterday, looked liked it had melted about 2 ft. off the shore, but refroze Tuesday night to about 1/4 inch. Some of the shallow bays are starting to open up.The main ice is starting to get get that dark look to it
Hopefully by 1st week of may lol
The first week of may is the crappie tournament... It will be a late spawn again this year.. The bite last year May 4 & 5 was very slow.
I checked the lake yesterday, it has opened up a good bit in three days. The lake is starting to get alot of different areas opening up. With the warm temps, rain and the wind this week, hopefully next weekend you could fish
How long after the Ice is off do the walleye start cruising the banks?
I know guys hit the shallows for spawing walleyes in April. Bee told usually by May the shore fishing for walleye is done.
I've seen guys fish it at this time of the year. As soon as there is open water somewhere on the lake there will be someone fishing it. The water temp is still in the mid 30's. I found that anything over 40 degrees and it's time for the eyes on the shorelines. The fish can be caught well into May and some years in June. Just have to be at the right spot. With rain coming the next 5 days and temps in the 60's the shore fishing should start to pick up this weekend coming up or next. It doesn't take long to warm the shallows with a big influx of warm rain. Fish the side of the lake where the wind has been blowing towards for a couple of days and you will find warmer water. The warm water will pile up on one side of the lake. I've seen where the water temps are 4-7 degrees different from one side to another. start at the upper end of the lake first and work your way down the lake as the spring progresses. Since the deep water is at the lower end of the lake it's the last to warm up.
I just read this at another site about the docks at Linesville. http://www.meadvilletribune.com/news...bbe545a92.html
Thank you very much.
Glad to see the update coming. It's well needed.
I think that the boat ramp is a little steep there. I am sure that the eyes are in the shallows now. I have caught good numbers of eyes in the shallows each year at the lake associations crappie tournament during the first week of may.
With the amount of ice and this cool weather I would say the eyes will be 2 weeks later this year than last year. The weather just hasn't been that great to warm the water for the on shore migration. Sure someone is catching a few but the big push is a ways off. Same for the crappies..
I went out yesterday to run the bugs out of the motor and do some fishing. The weather was beautiful, 60's and pretty calm, but all we caught was a few small perch. The water temp at the surface was 48 on the main lake and on the west side near shore it was 50.
Stopped by the lake this morning before heading to the boat store. Water level seems to be a little high. Only saw 2 boats at the Jamestown end.
Fished tues the 14th at Linesville for 4 hours after buting my boat in a slip and did pretty well.Managed 4 really big crappies 2 were 13.5 inches the other were 12 a jumbo perch from just outside of stewarts cove and a monster gill. I missed a few also again fishing not on fire but the big ones were sure biting for me that day.there were a lot of boats on water for a Tuesday morning this early in season.

Fishing at least for me has been terrible since the good day I had on the 14th.The weather since has been really bad and the water isnnt getting warmed up much if at all maybe even regressed. My son is up there now and he reported very slow and very windy with some nice whitecaps!!!!

Fishing at Linesville has finally picked up relly well been catching really nice fat black crappies along with perch some decent some not so and a lot of big bluegills.Walleye so far not so good. Lots of boats out and seen lots caught.Seems to me the bigger fatheads are catching most of the large crappies and redworms everything else.

Fished the lines vile area Thursday and did pretty good. We caught a lot of fish but a lot were small. Threw back probably close to 50 specks, gills, and perch. I kept 9 big crappies and my buddy kept 27. All on jigs. Only a couple of our regular colors didn't work. Bobber with jig, 4ft down. No matter how deep the water was, the fish were up high.
I noticed the same thing this year. The bigger the bait the bigger the fish. I've even went to a whole larger rig than normal. A 1/8 marabou jig with a 2 inch tail just hooked once and the bigger fish have no problem with it. Not catchng hardly any little ones with this setup. I think with the larger bait it still is sinking slower giving the big fish something to hit. I also noticed that the fish were inhaling the bait and swimming back to the boat while retreiving. The bite was so light that even with high vis line a bite was hard to detect. I'm beginning to thinkl that the males are just grabbing the bait and swimming off the nest with it than either dropping it or turning jsut so slightly give the familiar tug that is felt when using a jig that is being retreived.
Did well again today near red cross. 7 walleyes all short 14 inchers and smaller many perch some nice 2 bass, few crappies and white bass nothing real big but lots of action.jigs and minnows on or close to bottom as possible and the bigger the fathead the better.
We fished all last week on the north end of the lake. We caught fish all over, some days were better than others. The depth was between 4 to 7 feet. The fish that we kept were very nice 12 to 14, and a 3 that reached 15. I almost had my first 2 pounder, it weighted 1.89. The bigger minnows were the ticket, casting twister tails with maggots also worked well. We caught some nice walleyes in the stumps. There were alot of boats Fri. and Sat. fishing mostly in the stumps. We did better when we stayed away from them.
Fished the North end 5/11-5/14 with my wife and 2 kids. Did alright on the crappie, kept 55 total. Most were 11-13 inch, a few 9-10 inch and a few 14-15 inch. Got just as many 8-9 inch throwbacks. Got most drifting jigs in 6 fow. Found a few in 2 fow on shore wood but not many. Got some decent gills also. Kept 18 with an 8 inch average. Some cats, perch, largemouth, an white bass in the mix also. Another good trip spending time with the family.
Kids love spec huntin haha
Great Pics love to see the kids involved enjoy it they grow up really really fast I miss mine now we used to stay at Linesville and do the same thing the only difference back then it was walleyes more than crappies.

Have a small pondtoon boat. How fishable is Pyme with 10MPH wind out of WNW or NW? thinking of fishing out of Jamestown!?!?
It can be done. But when the wind comes out of the NW it usually is more than 10 MPH. A lot of places to put in that the NW wind wouldn't beat you to death. Or fish early and get off when the wind picks up around 10 AM. The closer you are to Jim town with a NW wind the higher the waves will be. You have the whole length of the lake for the waves to build. About 10 years ago I saw one of the larger pontoons get caught side ways in waves that were pushing 3 feet and it tipped over. The wind was in the 20-30 mph range out of the NW and got under the decking of the toon and flipped it really fast. Use common sense and have a good time fishing.
Thanks for the help! lots of good info there!!!
Fished the Jamestown area for a few hours today. The wind was terrible. Caught some crappies but a lot were small. Kept 7 that were over 10. One 13 in the bunch. Nothing shallow. Almost all I cleaned still had some eggs but I could smell them so they were spawned already. Headed to the north end stump field next time out.
I hope you have better luck in the stumps than I did. Fished there on Wednesday and didn't get many nice ones. Caught lots of fish, but only 4 keeper crappie and a couple perch between two of us. Of course Wednesday is when the cold snap hit, so that may have had something to do with it.
Im headed there today to fish this evening till dark.Have ben doing well over by red cross near the buoys between clark and ohio side. good number of crappies and perch and a few short walleyes. I will post tomprrow how we did.
