cheap bucket stake beds

Built another 20 small cheap bucket stake beds. Used 5 gallon buckets cut in half. Added concrete and 6 Cedar stakes to each one. Only thing paid for was concrete which I buy busted bags at a discount. Probably spent well under .50 per stakebed. They are less than 3' tall and will be sunk in water that averages 6 to 9' most of the year. Works great for vertcle jigging heavy jigs , you can feel them on your line. They last about forever and hang ups are to a minumum unlike brush piles. :fish

About 4 or 5 but I only use enough concrete to hold togather stakes and then place a rock on top to help bind them in.

Local Cedar mill scraps and sometimes I use Hardwood scraps from a local pallet mill. Helps when you take these folks fishing or atleast share your catch from time to time.

as far as the concrete goes, I take some screws to attach the boards (2 screws/board) to the sides of the bucket, and place rock in bucket, no crete needed.

Not near as easy but then harder for most to find too. Of course the folks tie'n markers on brushpiles can't tie nothing on either.:Rofl You gonna ever get over here and help me test those condos ?:biggrin

I have done that but if screws rust out or plastic deterorates and bucket ever turns over the boards could be gone. May build more that way and even use whole buckets with holes in sides for more stakes. When I sink ones without concrete, I lower down with a rope to set upright on bottom.

I bought a jigging pole a couple of years ago just to come go single poling with you. I ain't done it yet. DP

About any wood works good , Hardwood or Cedar lasts a long time. I get what's free and Cedar cuts easy as well as lasts. Scraps from mills is what I use and cut into stake size on a table saw.

When I head that way with the family in a few weeks, I'll send the request to eat, not cook. Hoping for good weather and fishing the weekend after Easter. That's our tentative plan.
