anyone been catching at lake Martin lately? :scratchhead
not many people fish lake martin...cause .....to me it is the mystery lake.........
Yes Didn't you see the video posted on this site.
Crappie attacks camera.
Do you tight line a camera or fish it under a cork??????
Thanks for the info guy's. I've been three times and haven't even gotten a bite ??? The mystery continues......
I'll be giving Lake St. Martin a shot tomorrow morning. First time not paddling.
I've been twice in the kayak since I got the motor thing. Not sure yet if I did the right thing in buying it. I've never even been in a boat with a trolling motor before. Feel like on a trip to the moon. Going to Martin so I won't be distracted by catching fish while I get used to it.
Mermentau are you going to try streeter's sunday?
I have a serious question for someone that fishes Lake Martin. One day about 15 years ago I caught 4 or 5 slabs at Martin away from the bank in the open. At the time I never thought there were suck big sacs in that little lake. On the few trips I fished it again I never caught a sac again. The bad part is I don't live that far away. Either I'm not much of a fisherman or I have a gris gris on me for Martin. Can any regulars share a few tips on fishing the lake; north, south, east, or west end. There is at least 6' of water in the middle. Are most sacs caught in the brush at spawning or can some be caught in the middle? The water is so clear I went the other day on a cloudy day figuring I might find a few. No such luck. Not a bite.:help
The Sacalait there are hard to catch. With the water being clear they spoke easy. I know during hunting season they catch them off the duckblinds. With water being low. It's hard to fish the trees cause your trolling motor makes noise and spokes them. But there are big fish in there. General fish spawn on the north end of the lake first then the south end. With it being so shallow and clear. The spawn is early. So the fish there have spawned already. I have caught them
A few times. Never in same area
It will get high. The snow didn't even start melting yet. Should be a good year.
I dont live far at all either, not far from where Goulas used to be. Once I get some house hold chores done Ill be passing there in the afternoons after work and most of my weekends... what ranger said though, fish far away from the target area with all that clear water.
Oh hey also, I guess this cant hurt any lol but if you live in the area my girlfriends cat snuck out the house night before last and is still missing.. If you see any unfamiliar cats in your area could you please let me know..
Black and orange calico spayed female with a white belly, names Eleanor....please for my sanity let this cat be found...! lol but hey, Im sad the cats missing, but at least I wasnt the one who left the door open.
I managed 4 spawning males by trees in 5' of water 3' under a cork. I'm just as tired as if I paddled. Like Ranger said the water is super clear and the fish I caught were kind of far from the boat. It's hard to get that light tackle out there in all that wind. Once a year is enough for me. Those jabbering tour guides take away my peacefulness. It seems more crowded than Henderson. First time ever in a boat with a trolling motor.
I've fished Lake Martin for bass and sacalait. I've caught about 3 or 4 per bass trip, but when I went purely for sacalait, I didn't get a bite. The cover looks incredible, but no luck. go figure
Mike, you hit the nail on the head - all that incredible cover. And it is that. However, for every fishy-looking spot you see, there are tons of 'em beneath the surface that you will pass right by. In the 10 years I've been fishing that lake, I have seen lots of trees and tree limbs fall, never to be seen again. And that trash holds a lot of fish!
My only suggestion is to use lures that cover water - Beetle-spins, Road Runners, and the like, and don't be bashful about tossing them across open water. 'Course, that's during spawning time, and as Derek mentioned, that's history for this year. Now it's outer trees and duck-blind time. And on that note, if you happen to locate the remains of one with your depth recorder that is not visible above the surface, bait it!
Bon chance.

On another forum I frequent a man and his son picked up 22 sacs. He said any type jig as long as it is blue and white. Fish it shallow in shallow water. He says its about to turn on. He uses a small boat no motor. Looks like he fishes old school off the front sculling. He always fishes there and always catches.
He is there almost every day once the spawn turns on he is saying soon real soon.
please don't make me make a trip there this year......feel my blood warming up...........
Thanks for all the great info guys. All I need to do is get a camera, kayak, blue and white jigs, fish shallow and in the middle of the lake and look for a guy with a boat in the back of his truck. Ya'll got me ready to try it again. lol !!!!
I think the casting method is smart and maybe they are a little spooky.
Thanks for the info guys. Lots of good tips. That's what I like about CDC people are willing to share information and help each other out. Thanks again.
