Any thoughts and opinions on the buy out of Ranger, Stratos, and Triton by Tracker Marine.

From what I read ranger will still be the same excluding angler sponsorship. What will be interesting is what will it mean for cabelas. Seems as though everything will funnel through bps from now on. They made a big move. Only time will tell
Hmmmm, don't know. Will have to wait and see.
Only time will tell but, to say I'm excited about it. Well, simply would not be True.
Will this have anything to do with the price of cigarettes or beer?
Nothing is rarely the same after a buy out. If Ranger follows the Tracker and Nitro brands I would say quality will go down. Also I expect Stratos maybe even Triton to eventually go bye, bye. Companies like BPS and Tracker Marine are all about increasing the bottom line not necessarily improving quality. I looked at several boats before I made my decision on what to buy and it was not a Nitro or a Tracker, not impressed with anything except price. LOL!! No offense meant. I am sure everyone has there own idea of what the best boats are and it is probably what they own.
As as far as the price of beer and cigarettes. I would just as soon spend my money on something relatively useful.

After the deal closes, Fishing Holdings will continue to operate independently under its existing management at its headquarters in Flippin, Ark., which is a two-hour drive from Bass Pro Shops’ headquarters in Springfield, Mo.
Dont sound like much difference to me in what they are going to do.
You can keep the Cigarettes wilbur, just a little Bud Light will do me.
When I decided on buying a glass boat I visited 2 plants (including Ranger) and dealers for 4 different brands of Glass boats. Honestly Ranger is what I thought I would end up with but after talking to two dealers and visiting the plant I was not that impressed. It will not get any better. I am sure of that. It is no longer the Ranger boat it once was. If I owned one of the older Rangers I would hang on to it.
Dan
I dont know what will happen, just know I wont ever own a new glass boat unless i win the lottery so it makes no difference to me. I dont know what you fish out of, but dont know what out there is better than a ranger,
My Significant other bought it for me because I lost 61#. I rode in and looked at a lot of Boats. I bought what I felt like was the Best boat not the cheapest. I am sure everyone thinks their boat is the best or they probably wouldn't have bought it. It really doesn't matter to me what you fish out of. I have met some of the nicest guys fishing out of little tin boats and some real A-holes fishing out of Rangers. That also works the other way around as well. The boat does not make the fisherman or even the man for that matter.

I liked what Mean v2 had to say. All a boat is, is a place to stand while you are catching fish, just like a bank fisheman. I've had 2 rangers and two bass trackers and enjoyed the crap out of both because I was fishin!!!!
Having been thru several "buyout" situations in two different sectors of the economy, it's standard press release material, things will change for the employees of those bought out, odds are they will change for the worst. Whether quality and such goes down, very hard to say, but I would bet some people will say yes, while others say no. It will depend on who is talking as it's all personal opinion.
In the end it will be fact. One way or the other it will be fact. Ranger is not the same business it was when Forrest owned and ran it. As far as Stratos and Triton my guess is one or both will go away eventually. A big corporation hardly has a need for 3 brands in the same price range competing against each other in a dwindling market, but that is just a guess. I have seen first hand when a company reduces quality even though it may be minor to increase bottom line. Their line of thought is if they can buy material/parts from another vendor and save even $10 then if they sell only 2,000 units that increases bottom line $20,000.
Lots of places that can be cut, fasteners, resin, and general parts. It will be things the average consumer won't realize until down the road. They will keep all the sparkle and features, but you can bet they will look to increase the bottom line as top priority. Personally I was looking for a company that is interested in keeping Quality as a top priority while being satisfied with a solid profit margin. Also customer service after the sale should be a top consideration for every consumer.

I think this is why Lund continues to do well. Their quality has always been top notch. I've never owned one, but I've never heard a lund owner complain.
When I was researching Aluminum boats Lund was the tops IMO. You are gonna pay for that quality but IMO it is more than worth it. A Gentleman once told me if you want Good Clean Oats you will pay a Fair Price. If you are satisfied with oats after they have been through the Horse there are a Lot of Bargains! If I had decided I wanted an aluminum boat I would have a Lund on order right now!
You can fish out of any aluminum or glass boat but that hardly means they are tops in quality or customer service!

Tracker Marine did not buy Ranger, Triton and Stratus, BPS bought them...it is different. Probably looking at BPS to sell Stratus and possibly Triton. Had to buy all three because of Fishing Holdings, LLC owning them and it was an all or nothing deal. Ranger will continue to be built in the same plant in Flippin, AR, not at the Tracker Boats plant.
History repeats itself. Look at what happened when Johnny Morris purchased Mako and Kenner boats. He killed off Kenner in short order so to bolster Mako sales. He couldn't have a good boat out there beating up on Mako, so he just killed it. I use to sell both of them years before he purchased both, and we sold five Kenners for every Mako. He did not want volume, he wanted profit dollars. That is all they want now. My kingdom for a new Champion hull, also gone due to the pursuit of profit dollars.
Strictly my opinion, but I disagree on the Lund quality. I purchased a new Explorer in 2004 and still have it. Two weeks after I placed my order, Brunswick purchased Lund. I don't think the quality of today's Lund is equal to what I purchased.
Ditto on the Lund quality. There is a gentleman on another board who has a 2013 Lund Predator that the paint started falling off the first time he put it on the water. Two years later and he's still waiting for Lund to fix the issue. All brands have their snags. We will see where this deal goes. If the used price of my ranger tin goes up I'll sell and walk over to the basscat dealer. Ether way this isn't something to get worked up over like some people are. My boat still floats and I'm stil fishing.
I have owned a couple of Lowe boats, fished out of Trackers, and Lunds. I also closely scrutinized the G3 boats. I still think compared to what is out there in aluminum boats the Lunds are tops in toughness and quality. Lowe is close and they both have consistently good customer service. All boats will have problems. It is how those problems are handled that makes or breaks a company IMO. I opted to order a glass boat because that is what I wanted, to each their own. I don't see anyone getting worked up here.
Ranger had already went downhill before this and I doubt this buy out will improve the situation. When I started out to buy a glass boat I was leaning heavily towards Ranger, but after visiting 2 plants and 5 or 6 dealers that changed. The plant visits were the clincher. Like I said it is not the same boat that Forrest once built. You would have to be blind if you couldn't see that. Some consider more than just the cost when they go to buy a boat, some just want the cheapest thing that floats they can fish out of.
Dan
Just wondering what is the quality that was changed in the Rangers as you have slammed them pretty hard. I don't own a Ranger probably never will, but I think they would still be the number one Glass bass boat on the market today. Also what brand of boat are you fishing out of ?
What ever they do the boat must float, the person buying one of those boats must be happy or it fits there needs to what they like,so if they mess up sales will be going down down down.
I havent learned anything, that is why I am asking Dan what has happened to the quality of a Ranger in his opinion. Yes he has been pretty hard on them in his posts so if he has been able to visit 2 of the plants and talked to 5 or 6 dealers I thought maybe he could give us some insight on what was wrong with them from what he had seen and heard first hand. If I was the so called WISE ONE I guess i would have respond with what was so great about them, but im not so that is the reason why I was asking him and also what brand of boat that he was using that he thought was better is in case i won the lottery like I said earlier and could afford a boat like that I could get the correct one.
now he has 2 questions that he can answer :popcorn
Aint none of you Gewbers can afford a Ranger anyway, so why worry about it. In my opinion I wouldn't have nothing but Aluminum.
Now that would work
It's gonna be a loooong winter. I can tell already...
Hey I got a new ranger:dono
I have a stinger 175 and I've fished with CL in his G3 ,not a lot of differences, the stinger is a little wider up front,
Oh and I had a Ranger a Ford Ranger lol:Rofl
I thought it was 10 years old... New to you though and absolutely nothing wrong with that!Quote:
