Anyone been to Monroe lately ?
Last Monday...Few dinks Lakes down 41/2 feet from what it was and spawing crappie moved out...they were just moving up, till we had 40* nights then they backed off, they are pulling water hard, think its droping 2 1/2 inches a day . gota get the Beaches open Memorial Day..I was hoping the storms this weekend would raise it but not gona happen.
Was there this evening. Lots of dinks. Was in paynetown ramp area. Fished the docks and brush pile from bank. No keeper. They were biting on just bout everything. From minnow to plastic on a slip not rigged. Curly tail plastic any color.
Do you think the spawn is over or is there more to come ? Thinking bout trying it this weekend.
The females I've seen didnt even look close to spawning. Yes they had eggs but didnt look ready. An none looked like they has been faning nest. (Males). Last Monday lake was 70* I sure cant figure them out. caught some really nice ones the week before the 2 days it got to 40 at night. They were moving up. Just outside of buckbrush. Then with cold nights it seemed like they moved back out. You can catch dinks all day long. If it doesn't storm this week ill be back looking. I've been fishing at pine grove and at normal pool it's really shallow. And with lake going down that might have something to do. With it. If I go ill give ya a report.
I'd appreciate that Arkey . I'm planning on launching at pine grove .
As of this morning, they quit pulling Monroe and shut the outflow down to 200 plus cfs at the dam and lake raised 0.8 ft overnite. All rivers and creeks are muddy and definitely will change the color in the upper reaches, but, lake is no longer dropping for now till rivers and streams go down below flood stage.

Monroe today, muddy, and raising 2 inches in the 3 hours I was there..water 63* 1bass 1 cat. and a lot of dinks, they have shut dam off. all on 1/8oz black/green gig. windy, cold, and rain(mist) while I was there. Almost didnt go when I went out at 5 this morning But Im hard headed....But two of the dinks were full of eggs. So Im thinking Monday, if I can wait that long....
Watch out next week !!!!
Minus 1 you go to Monroe this weekend ? If so how did you do? Going tomorow. Stop below dam this evening and lot of people catching a lot of dinks. Guy I talk to had 15 or so in basket all about 7 ins. With this warm up think the or weds should be good. We'll see.
Arkey :::Didn't go last week end. I think this week end will be better . I'd like to find them shallow in Pine Grove like the were a few years back. Keep me posted if you go this week.
I saw a pic on crappie crazy where a guy caught a nice white crappie at Monroe yesterday and another guy had a nice mess of black crappie caught at Morse.
Went Monday. Water 63. Only dinks at pine grove an crooked creek. 2inches or rain last night 20 miles south of dam. But they are pulling water as of yesterday. So that might mess them up. Lake is 6 feet 1 inch above summer pool.
Still planning on going Saturday.. Maybe the bigguns will be hungry by then.
Went today.. Stopped at the pine grove restrooms , keys got locked in the truck , had to get a locksmith to open it . Got on the water 10:45 . Stayed in the pine grove area till 4:30 . At least 50 plus 4 inch dinks , one 12 incher , one 14 incher . the two bigger ones came out of 4 ft. water with heavy brush.. I still think it will get better .
Thanks Chinker . I'm going to have an extra key made tomorrow . It was a fun day anyway . beautiful weather..
Attachment 163484Saturday Monroe. All in tops of laydowns
using minnows? or jigs under bobbers? Nice mess! :)
Jigs anything with white
Arkey......Have they already spawned. /
3 still had eggs (yellow) more had flesh color eggs? But for most part I thinks it's over. Didn't find any in shallow water. Cast to bank an wouldn't get bite till top of trees most were in 10/12 feet if water. Went in to Saddle creek this morn. When I got to 7/8 feet didn't see a thing on D/F. Anybody know why flesh color eggs now?
fished monroe twp days straight over weekend, nothing but dinks, and a cpl cat fish, fishing monroe is like fishing a dead sea for me last cpl yrs, use to get fish with shoulders a few yrs ago in my spots, now frustration lol, let me know if it picks up, probably not going back this yr
I was there Friday evening and again Monday. First fish Monday morning was a nice 13" female full of eggs. With surface temps at 70 degrees to start, my opinion is that it's all but over. There will still be females out there with eggs, but the biggest wave has already passed, IMO. With the lake still being 6' high, finding quality fish can be a real chore.
To be honest, I spent nearly all of my time looking for new spots on Friday evening. I did stop and vertical jig a couple spots that were loaded with fish, but dink was the name. Monday I started out spider rigging (alone), 4-14' of water, using double minnow rigs. I would not have starved, but I only had a handful over 9". Once the lake gets out of the trees and bushes, the fish will be much more vulnerable.
Thx for the report.
