Think I am going to go push some jigs around the Foot tomorrow morning.
I will be over there next week. I'm waitin till duck season closes
The wind laid down for perfect conditions and I thought it was really going to be good. Unfortunately the fish didn't care. With a water temp of 34-36 degrees they decided to stay in bed for the day. Got one decent fish and lost another at the boat. They were the only 2 bites I had all day.
We need a few days of warm sunshine to bring the lake up or 40 degrees before I head out again.
It does not look as if we will get any temps up enough to raise the water temp in the next 10 days. 11 for a low on Thursday night will make the water a little hard on the surface.
So when does duck season close? I've been chomping on the bit wanting to go but dang the freakin temperatures are saying otherwise. I caught some good fish last year in feb in the lower blue but it was a might bit warmer then the teens were getting this week. 1st day it his 45 with light wind count me in....
Regular duck season closes Sunday January 26 and I'm not 100% certain but I think the youth hunt is the next weekend, Feb 1-2. I don't mind the water temp being 38, I just don't want to mess up those guys that are hunting. There's plenty of time to fish.
Thats why I havent been, dont wont to get in their way either even though you can fish south end and still be a long ways from any blinds. The weather is really main reason for me and with this last cold front lake is starting to ice up again. The weather forecast for the coming week may just lock it up pretty tight.
I imagine single digit temps will lock it up. I'll be waiting when it thaws
I won't get down there til late this year...I normally hit it on my way back from Grenada about the middle of April, but it's gonna be the first of May this year...y'all think I'll miss it this year, or will I still smack em?
Shoot fishing should be hot on the lower end with these temps. Last time I fished there it was 12 degrees that am and warmed up to 15 degrees. We put a hurting on the fish. But had to let the baits sit dead still to get them to touch that minnow. If we were moving at all it was not working. Took us 2 hours to fish the 50 yard line on the south end. But put around 40 fish in the boat within that time. But fisherman around us was not catching a fish.:Rofl
Ive caught some of my biggest fish in february in the lower blue so when this artic front passes and the lake thaws out its on. Slab you still should be able to catch em first of may.
