Saw a post in main page about people not reporting anymore. So what up alabama? No one fishing. Find it hard to believe no one has fished in last two weeks. I'm going Monday. I'll let you know how it goes maybe? :biggrin:biggrin:biggrin:banghead

Been working ALOT and haven't been able to go which really does SUCK hoping to get to go next weekend when things slow down at work
I'm going Monday for sure. Maybe more days next week depending on how Monday goes.
I may try it this afternoon. Too windy Saturday. Will probably fish some Monday also. Will post with catch or no catch.
I can't vouch for the other lakes, but I've fished Guntersville for more than 40 years and never been skunked. That said, January is usually the toughest month, plus we've had the killer cold spell and it's gonna get downright chilly again mid-week. I remember the closest I ever came to being skunked on a boat at Guntersville, I was with my dad and a friend crappie fishing at Whitaker in the 70s. Back then you bounced a "crappie rig" around. Well, we couldn't get a lick. Trolling motors were just coming out, but mainly folks just drifted around. My father refused to leave until we caught one fish. Finally we caught a stripe, lol. Probably folks don't have much to tell about luck-wise right now, but I bet if you do find them they're pretty locked down together in some areas. The lake is turning over, though, up here. Personally, I haven't been in a few weeks and it looks as though I won't be going this week either. Oh, and as others have said, its been really windy, too. Of course the wind is your friend, but 4 foot whitecaps a friend of mine witnessed yesterday is a little over the top.
I am going to try to go in the morning maybe Weiss. Have not been in 2 weeks. last time at Neeley Henry caught a bunch of small ones in 4 and 5 fow. not much size to them. But was fun anyway.
This time last year I did pretty good, but I can't remember what the temperature was. Don't think it was this cold but not sure. I'm gonna go everyday next week as long as I'm finding fish. Just gonna have to bundle up after Monday. Cold don't bother me as long as I'm catching fish.
Business trip to Lost Wages, NV takes me out of the picture through Thursday. Post up about your travels on Logan.
I have not posted in a long time... So here I go! Had a extremely busy summer. My son broke leg on first day of vacation and had to have surgery, built a three bay shop in backyard for my boat and crappie stuff, built my wife a kennel for her labs, and the church I pastor has more than doubled! It's been a crazy year...., but you guys better watch it because I am hitting the water with a vengeance! I have been a couple times and done pretty good until this last cold spell and it turned off! Will hit it tomorrow if nothing comes up!
I've been busy with work and family since Oct of last year. I'm starting to get a little time now, but I'm rigging a new kayak. Callshy made me some new rod holders that I tried out yesterday for a few hours. I caught a dozen or so at Bradford Sinks on Redstone before I froze to death and left for home. The rod holders are going to work perfect, now on to mounting a fish finder. I hope to be ready by mid February for the early spring bite. I'm down to two packages of Crappie left in the freezer so I need to catch some soon!
In between boats so I can only go right now when somebody else is going.caught a good mess couple weeks ago. I will have a boat in a couple of weeks hopefully and ill be back on water. But I thought the same thing about being slow on here.
I'm feeling like its an odd yr in my neck of the woods. I talked to a couple of biologists pulling one of them shocker boats yesterday. I asked em if they'd seen any crappie cause I know they can get down to about 10ft .....said they hadn't shocked up the first crappie in 2wks. Mercy!
I am in the same situation as many on here it appears, in that the areas I usually fish just are not producing for me yet. Last year at this time I had a freezer loaded with fish this year not even a bag in the freezer. I hope things pick up or I am going to have to start looking for new areas to try.
I mostly fish Neely as I don't really like the crowds on Weiss but I did fish Weiss this past Thursday. I also will make a few trips to Guntersville. I went Tuesday to Guntersville with nephew for him to teach me a little more about reading my side imaging as he was practicing for a bass tournament...first time I have fished for green carp in quite a while. I seen several guys pulling slabs out from bridge while we were fishing...like to killed me seeing them crappie sparkle in the sun as they netted them!
Went last Sunday. First time ever spider rigging and caught 3 on jigs. Went today and it was cold and windy. Didn't get a bite and I used minnows too. Everyone I speak with on the water isn't catching much either. They say this has been the slowest fall/winter crappie season. So I don't know
I was doing great until that polar vortex thingamabob came along. Was my best fishing ever for time of year. Been a few time since and has not been as good. This week coming up is when I started last year and it was pretty good so we will see. I'm going Monday going to skip Tuesday (to cold and windy) then try rest of week.
Fellas ive been fishing but boy I aint been catching! lol This whole fall winter pattern has not paid off for me at all! Im not any good at fishing creek ledges or channels but im trying to learn. Fishing structure 10-12ft of water shooting docks and weed lines Is all I have in my arsenal lol Here lately 5 or 6 in a trip is all I can muster. It was good to read all the posts our page was about dead good to hear from MEPreach. Ok well anyway GOOD FISHING TO ALL!!!!
I am new to the forum, as far as posting goes. Last year I was going one day a week to Guntersville and doing very well. This year I have been a total of 3 times with limited luck. First trip was the first of November and I caught 13, second trip first of December and caught zero. Last time that I went was a few days after Christmas and I managed 3. Everyone that I talked to says about the same, so I have not went back.
I havent done any fishing since early november. Gonna get started right after deer season.
I have done better with the deer hunting than crappie. 2 for 2. Went twice, got a doe and cow horn spike. Wish that crappie were cooperating like the deer.
Awesome. Wish i could say the same, but it is what it is.
LarryDavid I have been fishing for crappie for a little less time than you but still nearly 30 years myself. From the techniques I have learned over the years and experience I have gained relating it all to fishing I must say this crappie season has probably been my worst in history. I have only managed a few limits with 50 being my best day. Only one of my spots has held any fish to speak of. I also nearly lost boat and all in a wind storm and got banged off a bridge pretty hard. I think maybe by Feb they might turn on a little, but it has been a rough go for me..
This has been a very OFF year for me also. Last winter was much warmer than this year. I think that has made a big difference. The way the weather systems have come through here this past year seems to have thrown everything out of whack or something. Probably don't know what I'm talking about so I will shut up for now. Hope it gets better soon, I want some fresh fish to eat.
