Would also like info on Wister, have never fished it. Any info on when, where and how would be appreciated. Thanks
63 tomorrow at Wister, I may need to scratch that itch.
Wister Slab daddy has been catching them pretty steady. Big fish 1.90 last weekend, one pole in the brush, jig tipped with a minnow. EB
I did pretty good, biggest was 1.6. Fished black /green and firefly minnow minders with small minnows. Water was 38-39, fish were from 18 to 23 FOW around the shad. Caught lots of little ones from the wood, better fish on edges away from the wood. I dont know why that was the case, maybe most the bigger ones have been picked off. Lots of fish, it was challenging trying to get to the bigger ones tho.
WTG Fishers!! Blacks/whites?
All whites Redge, I dont think I have ever caught a black at Wister. A lot of those funky "black nose crappie" yesterday.
Did they have a black stripe from their nose to their dorsal fin? A guide on Sardis Lake Mississipi calls those black nose crappie Magnolias ! I saw that on tv show called KRAPPIE KINGS. T he black was on top of backbone..
We call them Mohawk crappie. I have only been to Wister once in august the weather was hot and the bite was not!
Yup, black stripe into the dorsal fin. Caught probably 6 or 7 of them.
The biologist say they are Black crappie! Fishers they're are some big black crappie up in the clearer parts of the rivers. The rivers fish alot better in the winter than the lake does. But it's all really good unless its muddy! EB
EB, I haven't even made it out of the river yet! Its been so good every time. One of these days I will have to venture into that channel that snakes through the lake. I was surprised at how shallow most of the lake is looking at it on the nav maps. That channel has to be a fish magnet, now that I think about it winter may be the best time to fish it.
The fishing on wister is awsome from now till after the spawn. Catchin them from 12-14 foot over 18-21 oot of water. Lots ofbig fish,i was culling by 11 am sat big fish was a 1.70 and had several over 1.50 . The bigger fish are on the drops to the middle. I conside my home lake the crappie capital of oklhoma. Sunday we only caught 26 but i was fighting the wind, sleet and snow. The water looks great in poteau and the fourch. I will try to log on more often to answer or respond to any questions.
Slab Daddy it would be great if you would post up more often, I really like the looks of Wister!
What redge said x2!!! I've not been to wister yet, but it's on my to do list for this year. So I'll be watching this thread for any tips and info on the lake.
My buddy had 45 last Saturday fishing by himself! Had 7 over 1.60lbs. EB
Eb do you fish the main lake much?
Yes in the spring and summer! The lake is shallower than the rivers, but the fish are just as big! EB
I am going to have to try it soon, those channels look like crappie highways!
Thanks everyone!! I caught a few on wister a few weekends ago. havnt had time to go back since. I may venture over that way Sunday if this danged Minnesota weather will go home.
Attachment 150411 Early day at work paid off, Not many but good size at Wister dam! 2/7/14
Were you below the dam or lake side?looks like fun ,I have done real good in that kind of weather !!!
I was fishing on the dam side!
Now thats a die hard crappie fishing photo! Thats Awesome! EB
Im looking forward to trying out Wister. Slab Daddy, how big is that crappie in your profile pic? It looks huge!
I didn't weigh it, but i would say it was pushing 2 lb easy. I had two more just like in the bucket. :biggrin
How long was it?
Made me what to catch some crappie in the snow.
Ciller - You pretty well know the poundage when you know the length. Its amazing how the poundage shrinks when de fishee hit de rula. BTW, I have one of those golden rulers to check my fish on. You need to crawl in the boat when you get home. I know a couple "secret" crappie holes that I am saving.
I am in General. Hang on to those honey holes. It will be refreshing to fish with a veteran of the accurate weights and measures committee. No offense TC- nothing personal you understand.
