I got some little bells and epoxyed them on my poles to alert me if I'm looking at the depth finder and get a bite. I'd tried the plastic beads that you put on the line and they alert you but if you get slack in your line, they will wrap around your pole.

You ol' geezers need to get hearing aids instead of buying trinkets...
A smooth movement like wave action shouldn't ring the bell but tapping the rod tip will.
I actually thought this one up myself. I told Gene I was gonna try it when I was over there on Monday. The plastic beads work alerting you but with line going through them, they will tangle your line. Reesguide showed me the bead trick.
It would take pretty strong hearing aid to hear a fish bite. Lol What do they sound like when they bite? Do they smack?Quote:

I like to keep my rod tip about 6in from the water if look away and all of a sudden you have water dripping from rod tip you had a bite or if the pole is going under the boat its time to grab it.
The way they've been biting at Okatibbee lately you just about have to have your hand on the pole to get him in time. They've been just barely moving the rod tip, then they're gone. It'll get better though.Quote:

As deaf as I am I need something to fly up and slap me in the face.I usually know I'm gettin a bite when I look up and most of the rod is under the boat!I have to have a real low pitch sound to hear it!Seems like a good idea for those who can hear.I used to run a punch press punching stamping holes in 1/2" channel iron and when it finally went through it was like a stick of dynamite going off. Even with plugs and muffs on over, it still damaged my hearing.Couldn't keep glass in the pressure gauges. The sound would just shatter it.

Yep, 33 years around Navy A/C and my hearing is pretty bad. Scott has to be looking my way for me to hear him and all the talking to other boats on the water is beyond my hearing.Quote:

Think you gonna have one problem with them. When you get the fish on board, the lines gonna wrap around those bells and you won;t know it til you got the rod back in the holder. Have to keep pulling them back in, taking the line off the bell, then put it back in the holder
