How little wind does it take for sardis to get dangerous. Back in my tourney days it was commonplace to have a bass boat sunk or swamped. Now I fish out of a 1448 mod v tin boat or an xpress 17 ft bass rig. Am I gonna be a statistic?

5-10 is good, 10-15 will be TOUGH, but you can manage........over that, its best not to go in my opinion, which is not worth much, lol. Sometimes, they say 5-10, and you wont be able to fish cause of the wind. Any wind direction with a "W" seems the worst. Good luck and be safe.
Just a gnat fart
The 17' er will be safe most days, but not often comfortable. I wouldn't drag the 1448 from Jonesboro.
I have a 1542 jon boat and will stay home anything 10+.
Not to say wind speed dosnt mater by any stretch but Sards it's direction most times that will get you. Any east wind will get that ole girl rolling in a hurry even though it's not blowing hard. Sardis reminds me of fishing coastal bays the way it will start up in the timber and just gather force as it rolls down the lake.
Well lets just say kdavid could fart at Wyatt's and there would be 3 ft rollers at the dam!
My son and I fished it with winds out of the South-Southeast at 10 mph according to the forecaster but we had more than that. I can guarantee you the rollers were 2-3 ft and I have a WE 754 LDBR and we were both puckered up pretty good. Like everyone else has said, it depends on wind direction but it doesn't take 2 minutes for it to get bad. I wouldn't venture out in a 1448 for sure.
GO TO ENID ! ATLEAST THEY CAN FIND YOU .:biggrin, NO LIE OVER 10 MPR. ENID AND LOWER LAKE ARE BETTER CHOICES . NOT FISH WISE , BUT YOU WILL GO HOME .
Depends; do you carry em in tighty whiteys or a wheel barrow.. Lmao.. Leave the 14/48 at home
Please don't go on FJ tourney days!!! It was about 40mph for the last one at Sardis!!!! We all survived tho!!! It looked like the Gulf when Katrina hit!!!!
As some alluded to wind direction is very important also. If it is a steady 15+ breeze, If from the North or South you can be pretty safe on that side of the lake. West wind you can stay by the dam. East wind, forget it even at a steady 10+ sometimes.
1448 not familar with that boat style. The last 4 or 5 trips to sardis dealt with winds . Sardis or any big lake can turn on you in a hearbeat.
Been on Toledo Bend with wind that made me park my procraft on the bank.
I have said it before and I will say it again all weathermen went to barber college so if it says 5 to 10 add another 5 to 10 onto that and wannabe is ugly:biggrin
10 mph+. Forget about it. Unless you prefer to swim with the fishes.
The thing about it is this...if you don't mind getting wet don't worry about it. I fish out of a 14' boat, and I'll put it anywhere I want any ole time I want. However, it needs to be said that I don't have much money in it, and I always wear my life jacket. Also worth noting is the fact that I ain't very smart. Winds are funny.
I've heard people talk about west winds, east winds, hard winds, and light winds, but at times, it does not matter which direction winds are coming from or how strong they are. I've been sitting out in these lakes, and some of the worst winds I've encountered have been straight down when there were no other waves on the lake. The reason I didn't sink is that God didn't want me sunk right then. It is the reason why I keep my phone in a waterproof container and my life jacket attached to me at all times.
Any big hole of water is dangerous, and if you ain't willing to lose it, don't take it out farther than you can drag it back. I don't care if the winds are calm, and the weatherman says it's going to stay that way. They do not know what God is going to do.
I have gotten stuck on the lake twice. Once at Sardis when the wind went from 10 to 30'in a matter of minutes and I had to beach it and sit there for hours until it calmed down enough to get back across. Other time was the same afternoon the storm hit the marina at Sardis and I did not get back to my truck until around 11 that night. Both times it came in on me quick and both times I was in a small boat like your 14 footer. Best advice I can give is to watch the weather and wind directions. Even when the wind is not blowing try and keep a look out for places to fish when the wind is blowing. Basically scout the places you may not even be interested in fishing that day. It really helps to know the lake and know u can fish any where on it in any wind. A lot of guys can tell u about the fruit jar day on Sardis this year and I can tell u that the wind never bothered me and my boat had a limit by 10 o'clock. I did not fish the tournament but wished I would of after I saw the wind that morning. Ha.
