Yep....I am sure there are many that only troll. Just like some only pole fish.
I try not to get up there shallow and whack them when they're trying to spawn.
I troll in 2ft of water 1 hook or jig no wts.
We trolled at my lake last weekend in 3 fow and 18" deep .. Limits x 2
Because it's fun to watch the single pole guys roll there eyes at me when i go guy them trolling, an i notice alot of them have another pole laying on the deck with the line out....lol
I get it trollers hate single polers and single polers hate trollers, blah blah blah. And Atm your comment makes no sense, catch em deep or shallow they never spawn.I was trying to figure out if alot of people do both (troll&jig).
I do both... Should've single poled today.. Buddy had limits before 7am pole fishing Friday and Saturday..
I do both. They bout to be ready at Barnett and I will more than likley leave the trollin poles at home. This time of year on the Tenn Tomm, bout all me and Feesh do is single pole.
Sent from my dang phone
I like them both still learning the trolling thing but you can troll in shallow water if you want to me they are a lot tuffer to set the hook on in shallow water trolling though
I troll with a single pole and if that don't work I single pole with 10 single poles.
His comment makes perfect sense to me. I stay out in 6-10 ft of water most all the time and catch fish either staging to spawn or leaving the spawning area. I don't try and catch em while they are actually trying to spawn but try like the devil to catch em prior to it or right after:)
I fish with a pole in each hand . so am I trolling or single poling ? I call it fishing .
Your strolling.
Ok I am asking this just for healthy discussion, not stirring anything at all, but explain something to me, if you catch a big female out in deeper water while she is on her way to spawn or out in deeper water while she is on her way out from spawning, or while she is on the bed spawning, what the heck is the difference??? If she goes in your livewell, box, then into your deep fryer the fact is one in the same, she wont eva spawn again????
Y'all boys is putting way to much thought into this fishing thing. Just go catch em, 1' or 30' and enjoy! I myself will be fishing deep in shallow water.
C I cant say for sure bout Chris but I have not fished up that far. I have fished up as far as Abberdeen lock, actually above it about 4 miles, then all the way down to below the damn at Gainsville. Any where in between and I have more than likley wet a hook before.
I do both, I troll more than single pole but I have to admit that thump is kinda sweet !!!
I do both. I really enjoy catching em shallow with a single pole, but this trolling thing is sort of addictive. Last year was my first trolling, and I will do more of it this year. However...... I took a single pole with me yesterday, and dipped a jig all day.
Im scart of shallow water myself--I too like to fish deep in shallow water:)
That being said I now do most of River fishing down in Alabama, crowd dont seem to be near as bad down that way.
I used to only single-pole, period. Today broke me, 99% of the time I will be trolling in some fashion. Today Goodtime and I worked out butts off trolling a creek and it paid off, when the water depth changed we changed our depth on our poles. Majority of our fish came from more than 10 feet of water and as deep as 21 feet fishing 20 foot deep. Never would have caught these fish single-poling, wouldnt have even fished it.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/09/sanuzuvu.jpg
Dang, Rees, nearly all those fish fat with eggs!!!
Dont trash them eggs eat em.
I don't think you can catch faster than they reproduce . That is why they tell you not to put them in a pond . I do know the green carp will thin them out in a pond . So when i'm strolling the Rez I don't feel guilty either way . So why can't you catch them single poling 20 ft deep ?
I figger when I grow up some I will try it too . Thanks all of ya'll I know how to get it together and do it . I have learned when the ff finds them deep you can catch them just not so easy to get them in the boat . I was bouncing my jig on the bottom Saturday and they would hit it on the drop . Wasn't quite 20' but close . Learn something new every time I go .
I would love to be able to find fish down 20ft deep and drop a jig and catch em--just haven't gotten that lucky. I would suppose it would have to be over a nice brush pile to have it happen though
that's the problem--not many ledges round here--nothing but flats;)
Actually, a biologist once told me that it is far more important to throw the males back during the spawn for conservation purposes. A female crappie will lay tens of thousands of eggs, not all at the same time, and she leaves. The males actually guard the nests. They protect the smaller fish.
Sure is fun in 2 to 3 FOW with a foot to 18" of line out catching one and it's swimming on top of the water trying to get off. Talk about a fight
