I was headed down hy 43 to my sons grill today for lunch and stopped to offer help to these guys. However help was not far behind. This will ruin ur fishing plans. Wheel outa grease and came off.

That is really bad .
That would make for a truly bad day. Lest I dosnt look like he tore up anything else.
There were scars up an down the road and I'm sure the truck needs to be detailed. He had no idea how he kept from wrecking everything. The pics of the road scars didn't show it like it really was. Very lucky guys..in a way...

WOW.....thats truly a bad day.....I hope his lower unit on his motor didn't hit the pavement.
He crossed the oncoming lane of traffic when that happened...I'm glad his negligence didn't kill someones family. Getting your boat towed and looking stupid is the easiest price to pay...that could've turned out a lot worse.

I agree...but the duty falls on the owner to learn it. I didn't know squat about trailering when I bought my boat...but I didn't remain ignorant...I got myself up to speed. That accident easily could have killed someone in the oncoming lane when he crossed it.Quote:

The seal could have gone out on the hub after he greased the wheel. I have logged over 1.7 million miles behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler and have had things happen that some "know it all's" would call negligent or stupid....when in fact it was equipment and/or part failure.

changed the bearings and seals in my trailer, both sides, two weeks later on a short run to the lake smelt something funny when I got to the parking lot, seems I had blown a back seal, to much grease maybe, anyway stopped at the station,the convience store, and side of the road, eased home, all was fine, redone the right side, having told you that I shall tell you this, I am not stupid, or or negliant. pffffffffQuote:

One half a degree if angle off and it won't last long. Pack your bearings and install. Drive for a few miles slowly before you grease the hub. Then it should take the grease without blowing the deal. New bearings can fail quickly too. We never know around here.

Have had studs break and a wheel run off, spindle brake and wheel come off, and an axle break at the spring looking a wheel. None of the three I don't think I could have ptevented. Things happen and if you don't pay attention to your vehicle and trailer it can get ugly quick.

Lost a dust cover one time. could have ended real bad if i hadn't caught it. By the way a cap from a wd40/spray paint can and a little duck tape make a good temporary field repair. Enough to get you out of the boondocks anyway.
exactly right.....after almost 40 years as a mechanic I have seen it all ....some is from lack of maintenance but then again a whole lot of it is not. All these parts and components are made by man therefore they are subject to failure sometimes.Quote:
