What's the point of complaining AFTER the rules have already been changed? I gave a very detailed report of the public meeting that was held a Enid two months ago and I made it very clear the old single polers were very upset about all of the trollers and they weren't shy about letting their feelings be heard. At that time we had the same opportunity to write letters and express our ideas and suggestions but didn't bother. The single polers won so now we can take our three remaining poles and go fishing.

Was there any discussion of 3 poles at the meeting? Were folks supposed to show up and hate on single pole folk like they did the trollers cause they catch all the fish off the beds and ruin the spawn? I thought the reason for the meeting was to discuss the 10 inch 15 fish regs and from what u guys say who went it basically turned into an anti troller meeting. If 3 poles were in the initial proposal I would imagine it would have been met with strong opposition at that time.

I think the "3 pole" thing was back-doored and we need to at least shut that door if we cant swing it back.
Its never too late.....we might not win but we will never know if we do not try.......we need to unite as there is strength in numbers. I think John is doing a good job working to bring us together. Everybody needs to join the group that he started and go over there and post and let us know who you have contacted by email....Governor, MDWFP... whoever etc. The squeeky wheel gets the grease so let let or wheel squeek loud.
THREE IS BETTER THAN TWO ! CAN'T BELIEVE A SINGLE POLE GUY SAID THAT . DON'T HATE ON ME , I DO BOTH JUST NOT OFTEN ENOUGH .:fish
Handi I it was an informative meeting open to everyone. They made it perfectly clear that the 10 inch 15 fish thing wasn't cut in stone and if you had any suggestions to please submit your ideas to the Director before their next meeting that was around February 15th or so. The single-polers did, we didn't, enjoy your three poles.

looks like to me the single polers stick together more then the trollers
Thats the purpose for coming together now and hopefully heading this off before it gets worse. Stan, i dont think even you thought a 3 pole limit on Sardis was in the cards, at least you didnt say so. I pesonally appreciate you and ATM going to the meeting and reporting back but the 3 pole thing never even came up until the day of the commission meeting in February.
Rees you are correct, the three pole limit was never mentioned at the meeting but would it have made any difference? Mr Garavelli made it perfectly clear they were open to other ideas on how to reduce the fishing pressure on Sardis because of two bad spawns in a row. This information was gathered and was being presented by the biologist before the meeting went out of control by the single-polers and never recovered. This isn't the end of the world. Grenada has had a three pole limit for several years now and anglers continue to drive hundreds of miles for the opportunity to fish the "famous" Grenada for that one trophy fish.

3 poles, 5 poles, unlimited poles, just go fish. Grenada doesn't seem to have a problem with 3 poles. They catch tons of fish every year. I know a limit is a limit no matter how many poles you use, but a limit will be harder to come by with less poles, especially on the slow days. To make it easier to catch a limit, they lowered that to 15. I'll post for a poles increase, but I ain't gonna fret if it ain't changed back. I'm just gonna keep fishing. Who cares about how many limits we catch anyway? I thought it was really about the sport of crappie fishing, not how many you can catch!!!!!!!!!!
Eat em if ya need em, throw the rest back!!!!!!

I got one more thing to say before I shut up. I keep hearing that the single polers ruin the spawn. How so? Every time you clean a pre spawn fish with eggs, what are we trollers doing? We're catching a female that would have spawned!!! No one group ruins the spawn any more than the other. The single pole guys just want more fish on the beds, so they blame the trollers for catching to many pre spawn fish. Pffffft. We all contribute to the Pressure the MDWFP is worried about!!!!! I'm glad someone is looking out for the resource!!!! As some say, just deal with it!!!!! Some states have a two pole limit, course they don't have the fish we are lucky to have. We are blessed with the best crappie fishing in the World right here at our back doors. Lets all stop beaching, and Enjoy it!!!!

Yes. It would have made a difference. The trollers would have been charging the governors mansion with trolling rods in hand.

Bill just to clear something up for me and not in any way trying to hijack this thread but Eat em if Ya need em throw the rest back????? Really??? you made a comment or two to me about posting pics of catches on here. So clear this up for me, when you prefished Grenada and posted the pics of the enormous pile of fish was that what you were gonna eat or maybe just maybe this eat em if ya need em thing just goes for your home lake where you fish???? I am a bit confused????
I think when we get this changed back we need to take pics of Big and Yikes fishing with five poles and make fun of them!

I stated that single pole fisherman ruin the spawn just to show the same ignorance they do in saying trollers are to blame for all FISH problems. I personally don't care how anyone fishes but it is very evident lots of single pole fishermen hate trollers.

Sammy, let me clear it up for you. Are you taking about the spring MCC tournament? If so team Big Meat hauled ALL those fish to Shoney's after the tournament and dumped them on the cashier who had requested a FEW fish. I saw it.

Oh ok then that explains it thnx Chaney.:biggrin
I'd forgot who said it, but in the past I've heard that before about the single pole guys ruining the spawn. Maybe it also was an analogy.
I don't know why they think we trollers hurt the resource any more than they do. Maybe its because trollers catch more fish year round, even during the spawn. Jealousy always raises its head in debates about single pole vs trolling!!!!! It's really a shame for us crappie fishermen to divide ourselves instead stand up as a single group!!!! The minority always gains power by dividing the majority!!!!

ATM if you can gitter changed back to 5 poles after the fact then I will gladly pose for ya but NOT in a blue kini. Your going to have to talk to Speck about that. I'll keep my extra two poles handi just in case.:biggrin
Would it have made any difference if the trollers had known that the pole limits were what was really on the block. Rest assured, the 70 odd old single polers wouldn't have a place to sit for all the trollers. You can't really respond to something you don't know is going to happen.
I don't post much on here anymore but I think something needs to be said and I'll probably get blasted for it but here goes. In the interest of full disclosure, let me start by saying I don't live on one of the trophy lakes. I live in Memphis, I'm retired and I fish butla, sardis and enid one or two days a week. I spider-rig with five poles and I sometimes catch a limit of crappie. I keep what I catch, fill the freezer and give away a lot of filets to people who can't fish....elderly, etc. in Memphis. I don't post pictures and rarely post on here about the fish biting. I really don't like to fish on the lakes when 100-200 boats are out there. I'm getting older and I really don't like fighting the crowds anymore.
Two recent events come to mind as we talk about the dilemma we're in with the pole limit issue. I'm concerned that 2013 will be the last year that we will be able to fish 5 poles on the Big 4. I hope that I am wrong.
First event: Sardis was hammered two winters ago and I was right in the middle of the hammering. We talked about the lake being on fire and before long you could walk from boat to boat at Lespeedeza. This lasted for about two months and many of us caught more big slabs than we could count. We caught easy limits day in and day out and we eventially caught most of the keepers out of the lake. The folks who live on sardis went for over a year not being able to catch more than a handful of keepers even those who know the lake and fish it daily. They bought 10-12 dozen minnows and caught 60-80 fish per day with about 3-5 keepers. We all remember this and most of us (including me) avoided the lake.
Second event: We hammered butla last year in May/June and again in September with almost 100 boats on that lake for couple of weeks in May/June and again for about 3-4 weeks in September/October. We went from 6-10 boats a day on butla with all of us catching easy limits in early september to not being able to find a parking place at Dub Patton or at Bayou Point when crappie professor started posting pictures of his catches there in september as he introduced himself to the crappie.com community. Probably the only thing that saved butla was the fact that lots of keepers started showing up at sardis in late august/early september and we moved to sardis. We enjoyed a great fall and early winter at sardis with lots of relatively easy limits until the lake muddied up in mid December.
Some people like picture posting and some don't like it. People can do what they like; it's a free country. But let's face it, we talk about catching fish on this board, we post pictures and the crowds of boats come. The lake gets hammered, we catch the fish and we move on to the next lake. The people who own property on the lakes and live on them don't like us cleaning out their lakes and they're organizing to try to stop us. We better get organized or like ATM said...we'll all be fishing with one pole next year if we keep silent. The locals know that most of us will not drive all the way to their lakes if we have to fish with one pole and I believe that they are very serious about trying to stop us.
Let's not get to arguing among ourselves on why we got into this perdictament. Stan warned us that we better come to the meetings and we didn't come. I'm guilty as charged. We probably could have avoided all this if we had gotten mobilized an showed up en mass like the local single-polers did but that's water under the bridge at this point. John is doing a great job getting this effort mobilized and let's all get behind him and support this effort. Our spider-rig trolling future on the Big 4 is at stake, I believe.
I'm done speaking my mind. Hope I don't get everyone all stirred up with this post but if I do, I apologize beforehand.
Why blame the Professor? He wasn't the only one posting pic's!
Wow are you serious. This is a crappie fishing forum. You are trying to bash a member for posting pics of fish that he caught. Heck. Wish this weather would clear up so the moods would get better when folks get back to fishing.

Guy's I appreciate you all speaking up for me. I usually would never respond to something like this but I would just like to point out that if you look at the Mississippi forum you would see that just about everyday someone is posting pictures of what they have caught that particular day. I have made it a point to respond on most of those posts just to acknowledge the fact that someone else besides "The Crappie Professor" is posting pictures. Also I would also like to point out that when people post reports and dont post pictures many people ask them to post the pictures. When I joined C.C. there were tons of pictures being posted and there still are! If someone thinks that "I" allllllllllll by "myself" has caused the influx of fishermen to Arkabutla and Sardis you are sadly mistaken. I would like to pose a question that would bring an educated response, what is the difference in the "crappie professor" posting pics and everyone else who is posting pics? What makes my pictures so much different than everybody elses pictures. It's not the number of fish because there are tons of pictures that show that people are catching more fish than myself. IT's not the size of the fish because I obey the Mississippi state laws. It's not the number of pictures because you can look at the number of posts I've made and see I have not made as many a some. So whats the difference? Is it the type of camera that I use, are the pictures out of focus, is my background bad, come on what's the difference? I could name tons of people who post pictures but I wont do that because I believe that if a man bought his boat, bought his bait, bought his license, bought his truck (or car), Caught his fish, bought his camera, took his pictures, bought his computer and posted his pictures he should be able to do just that without being singled out and picked on. Just go and look in the forum for yourself and Tell me whats the difference. Lets be FAIR!
By the way I'm not upset, just making a point.
That's it Crappie professor that going to cost u a dozen of those new professional hooking devices.
No one person is to blame but I do belive posting pics of limits has an affect on the lakes. You got 100's of people that join forum this time of year for 1 reason. Get fishing report and head to lake.

If posting pictures is going to cause all of the fish in our lakes and rivers to be caught then lets alllllllllll stop posting pictures. When everyone else stops I'll stop.
We like and encourage pictures here. There's no rules that says you "must" post how you caught them or what lake you caught them on. Maybe we need a new rule that says you can not "discourage" pictures! :cheers2
WOW!!!! I thought all of us on here were adults. I can't believe that "TN Crappie Professor" is being talked about. HMMMMM..... That's not cool. He has been a true "BLESSING" on here. He has answered questions and also encouraged everyone with the pictures he posted. Why single out 1 person? When I was in elementary and someone talked about me and what I was doing it was the simple fact that the person "WISHED" he/she could do what I could do. Many people can't fish like him. He has been teaching me alot about fishing and he is very wise and serious about it! Each time I go fishing I am getting a new PR (Personal Record) because of his lessons. That being said I again ask, "Why single him out?" Well for me I am honored that something was mentioned about him. That means he is doing something right. His new devices "PHDs" truly work and the pictures have proven that. I have also seen it for myself that the PHDs work. So I just wanted to tell "TN Crappie Professor" to keep up the good work and he is truly on his way to becoming "GREAT!" Greatness comes when you have people that you don't know that will talk about you! Hopefully I will be next when I am able to catch like he can!
Yall are making me hate trollers, single polers, crankbaiters, longliners and bigH.It has to stop these threads are making alot of hard feeling and some are ready to quit the site all together. That's enough you bunch of ugly nonfishing gewbers.
