Yes far and grennel are the worst but its fun when you have fish all the way around better be ready
We have 1/16 and 1/8oz shad head that are awesome trolling/ spider rigging
I don't spiderrig , only jig fish and still catch lots of Bass , Drum, Gar, Catfish , Buffalo, and Carp at times.
gar and slimers are your biggest problem down here. But strangely enough I didn't hook into too many trash fish last year--but it will happen.
i spiderrig about 90% of the time i fish all over ar. and ms. most of the time i run 8 fourteen ozark trolling poles !! their are times that you can't fish all because they are biting so fast then their is times you can take a nap and not miss a bite either!!! but it is a fun way of fishing. once the water warms at time the gar mess with you a little depending on were your fishing and we do catch a few catfish and bass also . once you kinda get the hang you will be hooked !!!!!! i posted a couple of threads back a month or so back on spiderriggin go back and look them up they will help!!!
well said mr jerry, "its as good as it gets"
As far as trash fish go, I catch more Drum and Bass than anything. I cant even remember the last time I caught a Gar. Last time out I caught a decent size Blue though. Those suckers will sure make a mess of your rigs. Spent 20 minutes re-tying.

Yes and Yes...Spider rigging...Verticle jigging...bobber fishing...Dock shooting...Trolling Cranks or Long Lineing jigs all have their place on certian types of water and during certian seasons...learn these 6 techniques and when to use them and you will be able to catch em on any lake mother nature throws at you.
Welcome Concreteman. Good info here. Where are u from?
Just as soon as I can fish one rod well, I'll go to two. After that, the sky is the limit!! :fish
My first time spider rigging Sunday night on beaver fork. Never know what will bite. Attachment 115754
Sorry pics sideways.
Not a bad looking bass. Did you catch any crappie?
Nope. I was only out there 35 minutes total caught 5 bass.
Great info guys, I thought you would say white bass during the run. I figured they would be in the same water. Bet they would make a mess of your lines. Gindog I live in Norfork close to the White River, Norfork River, Norfork Lake,Bull Shoals Lakand Buffalo River. I use to trap the White River full time from Cotter to Batesville. Started a concrete buissness, not enough time to trap full time, now im hooked on fishing anything that will bite when I have time.
Get ready to spend some money to get rigged out. I'm just getting into it myself, but I know it will be worth it!!!!!!
I've got a couple of spider rigging questions to add as well. I've never done it before so it's gonna be a new experience. What's lb test line do u use? Do you jigs, minners? I also have see people mentioning adding extra weight to the lines. Do u just use egg sinkers or a drop shotrig? As far as poles go, I'm looking at some BNM pro staff trolling poles. An opinions on those?
I use 10lb hi-vis for my main line and 6-8lb lo-vis Stren for a leader. Some people use much heavier line for trolling brushy areas but this works fine for me, just use hooks that will bend and pull free. I only use jigs while vertical jigging, but I always take some minners if I plan on setting out the trolling poles. I start with jigs and minners at various depths until I start to get bit. Most people use casting sinkers on the bottom or egg sinkers between the two hooks, but I just buy the cheap lead sinkers and they work fine. My poles are 14' Firecast trolling Rods. B&Ms are good too.

I use 12lb hi vis main line with a 10lb leader with 2 hooks about 20in apart with a egg weight in between the two hooks and some time I use a leader with a weight on the bottom. I try and use a 1/2 oz most of the time but that depends on depth, wind and speed.99% of the time I use minner critters (weightless jig) tipped with a minnow.

This could get interesting you have asked the one question that will get ABH and MG going. As far as poles I now use exclusively 14' Ozark Rods. I started off with PST and they work but now after catching quite a few fish on my Ozarks I love them. There are several suppliers of them on this forum. If I am spider rigging I always tip my jigs with minnows. I use a 3/8 -1/2oz sinker about 12" above a 1/32 jig. I also use a Capps and Coleman rig. That is what MG was explaining you can google how to make a capps and coleman rig and come up with all kinds of ways to tie it. I also use 8lb hi vis line. Also if you are looking into spider rigging you ought to come to the spring crappie camp at Dardanelle. There will be several people there that would be happy to help with any questions.
Does anybody frown upon spider riggers?
I don't care who frowns i will fish the way i want and they can fish the way they want and we both will be happy !!!!
The ozark 14ft trolling poles are the best on the market along with the hi-tec pole holders !!!!!!
I use a 1/2 to 1 ounce weight at the bottom! up 18 inches and loop a 4 to 6 inch loop knot! up one more 20 inches and same 4 to 6 inch loop knot. Reason i do this is its alot easier to get unhooked from a snag with the weight at the bottom. capps an coleman style works great too but harder for me to free from a snag.....
Thanks for all the advice guys. I've been doing some research and I think i've got a pretty decent idea how to get started? Just curious, how often do you get the poles hung up on stumps and junk. Just wondering if that's normal or if its just when your a rookie.
My grandpa always told me, "If you ain't gettin hung up, you ain't Crappie fishin!" You're gonna get hung up, what rookies(me) do is turn 1 snag into 4 or 5!
C.J.
Oh I am certain ill get hung plenty of times, especially on Conway. I find at least one new stump in the spots I fish, every time I'm out there. I swear they got legs and move.
Rookie or not your going to get hung up. Just with less experiance you will make a bigger mess of it.
I spiderrigged out on the main lake this morning from 6-11:30 and only broke off once. I use a heavy(1oz) weight on the bottom and pull up on the line if i even think i am on a stump or brush. It will usually come loose if you catch it quickly.
C.J.
There will be a learning curve I promise!!!!!!
