I tail hooked one almost that big at Okatibbee a couple years ago while pulling cranks. I got my crankbait back in about 30 minutes.

Caught one in the dorsal fin at Chotard pulling cranks, took a while to get him in too.
Wow that things bigger than KDavid. Not near as purdy though.
I caught this one years ago on a 11' B&M with 6lb test. It weighed 22lbs.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/01/28/4ymu6e4y.jpg
Trace lake is full of them
The cat wouldn't even touch it
It weighed 46#. We actually didn't catch it on a pole. Someone had hooked him in the gills and it was swimming around on its side about dead so we netted it and carried it to a guy that I know that eats them. He said it was good. I will take his word for it.
It wasnt Stickum was it, ?
BETTER THAN MOST DAYS AT TRACE . THREW MY ANNUAL PASS AWAY IN NOVEMBER , RUNS OUT IN MARCH .nonono
There are some decent crappie there but you must weed through the small ones. Larger jigs seem to help get the bigger fish. Winter time is the best time. Fish the main lake creek. Largest crappie we caught there was 2.75 #. Got 7 over 2 pounds one time. Here is a few got on a average trip. Attachment 114338
Yep.....The best crappie are along each side of the creek run on the water ski part of the lake........the dinks seem to be over on the fishing side. Have caught some good ones around the spillway structure too.
G is right about the bream fishing at the trace. Here is a pic from July 2012 caught along the main lake levee. Even got 1 crappie on a cricket.Attachment 114339
I have caught crappie there when I was bream fishing useing mealworms
I am going to try and hit it in the next couple of weeks. Have not been this winter yet due to my son finishing his senior year of high school and working a part time job. If I was able to drive I would be there Atleast twice a week. I live less then 5 miles from the lake.
Going through the hills....I live 4 miles from the gate
YOU PROBALLY RIGHT "G", LIVING ON ENID 14 YRS , 30 MIN. TO GRENADA, 20 TO SARDIS WILL SPOIL YOU FOR SURE . THE BREAM ARE NOT WHAT THEY WERE 25 YRS. AGO EITHER . CAUGHT SOME GOOD ONES BUT NO MATCH FOR MISSISSIPPI OXBOWS . THE FACT THEY KEEP THE LAKE EMERALD GREEN 7 MONTH OUT OF 12 GAVE ME THE RED REAR .:biggrin
Time on the water Curtis......I get a annual state park and state lake permit every year. Trace, Elvis Presley, and Tombigbee State park are just too close to me not to. Lamar Bruce was the best of them but they re-built the levy on it and are restocking so it will be awhile before its good again.....at least they got all those pesky yellow bass out of there and gar.
I NEVER FISHED IT TILL JULY . TO BUSY GOING TO ENID/SARDIS . HAVE CAUGHT TONS OF LARGE REDEAR/ BLUEGILL YEARS AGO . TOOK YOUR ADVICE ON WHERE AND WAS FORCED TO THE OTHER SIDE BY FOLKS RIDDING ON STICKS AT 70 MILES AN HOUR . LOOKED LIKE OLE MAN AND THE SEA !:biggrin
