Anybody have any info or thoughts or reviews on this motor? Looking to maybe upgrade next spring and would like some info on THIS motor. Plenty of info on Yamaha and Mercury already but curious what thoughts if any on this motor. Thanks

Think about the only evinrude I have seen recently that I know of is the evinrude bluegill has. Everything else including his boat is pimp so I figured it couldn't be all bad. Go to the Walley boards and ask around and BassBoat Central. Those guys up north run a lot of Etecs. What little I have read says the 115 should be a good motor and most of the problems with High HP motors have been fixed. Buddy of a friend of mine is running the 115 on 17ft ranger and loves it. Nary a problem,quiet and sips gas with plenty of power.

This would be the closest specks I could find to my boat. My boat weighs less but I'm sure the stratos out performs it easily on the ride cutting through the water.
I couldn't find much current info on them but from what I read the larger motors seemed to be problamatic around 2010 for sure. I have one buddy who has a 25 and loves it.

I've only had mine for a few months, but I am very happy with it. Its quiet and runs like a scalded dog. That being said, I probably would have went with a Merc or Yammie if I had the choice. The boat was a demo and the E-Tec is what it had on it. I know they had some issues in the past, but from what I have read and heard from others, that seems to have been resolved. I gots a five year warranty, hopefully I don't have to use it. :cheers2Quote:

Kenyon, I've sold several of the bigger ETEC's, 90-150. Those are more of a mid range engine, but I haven't had a problem with the few I've sold. I do better with the Yammies as far as sales go tho.
The ETECs aren't any faster on the top, but being a 2 Stroke, they have more torque at the prop, and can bust out of the hole. They are quiet, fuel efficient, lighter weight, and they have better emissions than the 4 Strokes. They are nice engines!!!

handicrappie, my guess would be they are a good engine, because you can't find a used one for sale. I looked for one on ebay and craigslist for a few months. with no luck. from what I could find out about them. the 115 hp rude, is about 80 pounds lighter than all the other brands of same hp. and they have a special kind of piston rings, that don't have to be broken it at various speeds. if you buy a new one, it's good to go full throttle, right out of the box. cheaper on gas, and much quieter. try finding a used one on the net, and then look for a used one of any other brand, and they are everywhere.
Handi just order one and put it on your boat....And hurry up before the fish start biting
I have one of these motors, it blew up on me last fall, 4 days before the Crappie USA Classic. The Evinrude dealer fixed it in 3 days with a new powerhead. If you ask me I would stick with a Mercury! Period!!!Quote:

Nothing wrong with my current motor at all except it is a 50 and my boat is a little under powered. Motor does fine though and tops out at 30mph. It will be a year before I'm in position to upgrade and i just like to have info on different options. If I do upgrade it will be a costly one but crappie fishing is basically my only hobby now and I like to have nice stuff so knowing how I usually do I will probably bite the bullet and upgrade. Gotta pay off my truck first and then we will see.....

I don't see it. If two guys can sit side by side in pedestal seats, why wouldn't you be able to sit in your chair up front. You would still have to get in the boat as you do now, but with no front deck you could fish next to your partner and feel safe down in the boat.

And just think I had an extra pack of these snack sticks I had processed I WAS going to bring ya. I'm sure where there is a will that there is a way. Just getting into and out of the boat without a decent size platform to balance on would be the first obstacle. My balance sucks since I have no control below my injury level of T7.
