was out today and began to see these horizontal lines. Occurred in both clear mode and max mode. faintly saw same lines on my 998.....
Any hints as to possible cause(s)

Looks like possible sonar-to-sonar crosstalk...
Were you running both sonars at the same time...??
Rickie
Turn one of them off.....I think thats caused by running 2 ff's with the same frequency at the same time.
okay will try that next time. thanks guys
tom
Try turning on and up the Noise Filter setting and see if that helps filter this out on the unit the lines are showing on.
You really mean the vertical lines right? as in up and down.
You can only run one Humminbird at a time? I think HB used to give out a free interference kit, since it happened to almost everyone. maybe Greg can get you one.
You can ran more then one bird at a time. I run 2 and sometimes 3. If you havent tried, run your power directly to your battery. If the finder is on your trolling motor, try a ground wire bolted to your trolling skeg, and run it to yournegative on your battery.
looks more like a weak or bad battery.
trolling motor and bow unit on same battery, and the 998 is on its own battery. will try noise filter.
Yes, meant vertical lines.....thanks for the cporrection
tom
I would move the bow unit to the same battery as the 998 and not connect to the trolling motor battery.
Also, Keith is right, your voltage looks low, were you trolling all day?
Why do u ask about the bad battery due to the 11.7 volts. I guess I need a new one then because mine sometimes ranges from 10.9 to 11.5. Mostly 11.5 after full charge.

Regardless of the lines, I think it's a bad idea to have ur FF and TM on the same circuit. The momentary drop in voltage when u hit the TM on button is not good for the FF. my $.02
did u say the lines are all the time, or just when u run the TM?
well the TM ff is on the cranking battery (not in use all the time, just when cranking tiller motor) and the 998 is on its own marine battery
