What do you guys use for jug fishing? I use 2 liter bottles but I have seen some people use 2" PVC pipe. If you have some pictures of what you use please post them.
Thanks,
Lynn

I have 2 types. One is 4 PVC at 12" capped on both ends with an eyelet screwed in end for line, very heavy duty, but bulky. 2nd and favorite is swim noodles cut 12" with 15" cpvc pipe glued in it and a hole drilled at end sticking out to run a cotter pin thru a swivel. I also put reflective tape around it.
I like swim noodles cut into lengths. They are tangle free as you can hook the stuff after winding up line. They also take up minimal space. You cant put a bunch in an old milk crate.
I like the swim noodle type with a counter weight in them. It makes them stand up when you get a hit, MUCH MUCH less of a hassle and you can store more than you want to fool with in a small rubber made tote. The only disadvantage to the tip up is that if your bait hits bottom it will give a false tip up. They are easy to make and there is a step by step way to build them on you tube. I got away from jugs because of all the trash and making false runs to jugs that weren't even mine. Your BIG cats (rock fish and HUGE gar take them here) will keep them down for awhile but, they eventually pop up unless they tangle in trees while they are down.
I am another that uses my home made swim noodles. I love them compared to the jugs or PVC that I have used in the past. I just keep them in a tote until I am fishing them. Plus I am always looking for something to use those damn noodles at the end of the year. I also use retro tape, I use them at night since there isn't as many people on the lake. I have put out 100 a night with me a couple other guys fishing.
I use milk and orange juice gallon jugs. You can easily spot them
Good o 2 liters here.
This is my favorite set up! http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...shing/jugs.jpg
Go to YouTube and look under jug fishing. There's a guy has a video on how to make them with PVC, noodles and rebar as a sliding weight. If I jug fished that's the way I'd build some.
good information
How deep do you put out your jugs this time of year? It the heat of the summer do you fish the same as now or do you go deeper?
If you are using noodles put a length of garden hose or pvc pipe thru the noodle or you will loose a big fish. We lost a huge catfish once due to not renforcing the foam noodle in some way.
I have caught a lot of big fish with juggs and mine aren't reenforced. What I have learned is to be on top of them, once you see them starting to bob get to it and get the fish out. NEVER pull the fish out by the jugg but by the line. My thoughts
Another vote for swim noodles. If you can get some kind of weights to plug the ends of the holes it helps when throwing them and that added weight cuts down drastically on the drift when a breeze comes up at night. Here in my hometowm we quarry and finish granite into tombstones and the cores from small granite vases are an exact fit to slip inside the holes. I use plugs about 3" long on both ends. Also, I tie my line near one end of the noodle (over the rock plug) with a slip knot. The harder the fish pulls the tighter the know gets.Thumbs Up By tying to one end the noodle stands up when a fish is on it.
I also use swim noodles but on mine i use a wire coat hanger run through it as that is alot cheaper than pvc. my tip for you is to keep an eye out when your driving or boating for a smashed road barrel. drive any distance and youll see at least one that nobody is coming back for and they are all the time getting washed into creeks. take it home and cut the reflective tape off with a razor (it may be a challenge depending on how smashed up the barrel is) and wrap it around the end of the noodle so you can easily find them with a spotlight
I put a zip tie around the noodles and tie the line to the zip tie.
We use swim noodles with a peace of pvc pipe in it an a sliding weight so it will stand up better. I also put reflective tape on them. Like saute86 said if there not renforiced youll lose a big fish we had one on a jug that was renforiced it still could hold it under for along while lol. The funny thing is we lost the jug the day befor and found it a soild mile away the next day and thats when we found out how long a big blue can hold a jug under... we finaly got it after 3 times of up and then back in the water
