LOOKS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but have a suggestion or questoin not sure which but could u just take the part of the pvc holding the poles and drill them too the side of ur boat and drill holes in the middle part so u could raise them up and down
Looks like it ought to work. Spiderin ain't my thing.... I got to feel that thump!
Didn't want any screws or holes in my boat. I did however screw all of the framework instead of gluing so I can make changes later if I don't like something about it. I put splits in the 90's homlding the rod holders and used hose clamps so they are 2 way adjustable. If spidering is my thing, I will rig up for it later, if not then I haven't lost much.
ur rite about not wanting holes in ur boat but it looks great
I know an older man in this area that spider rigs with the cut pvc screwed to a 2x4 that is clamped on each end to his gunnels. He catches a lot of fish, just easing around.
I felt the same way and still do to a certain extent. But I decided if I was going to catch fish on so many different waters year round I was going to have to be versatile. After doing it for a few years now, it's relaxing fishing and almost as fun as single pole jiggin.
Spider rigging puts ALOT of fish in the boat.....almost as many as longlining does.RoflRoflRofl ANything that will hold your rods and will keep you from loosing them will work. The fish wont mind how it looks on your boat eiher.;) I always preferred my rod tips to be even though. It makes it alot easier detecting some of those light bites. Give yours a try and let us know how well they work for ya.:p
Looks like it will catch a fish to me!!!
I fish with a guy that refuses to buy or build him some rod holders. So he will lay them on the boat or wherever,i've saw him with a rod stuck in each shorts leg once.He dont want to admit he's trolling.Good luck with the rod holders.
Krappie KG I'm kinda like you I've single pole or double usually jigged from my boat forever. This year I've started spider rigging a little. My problem is every time I pass a pretty lay down or see a sunken treasure on the FF I want to stop and jig it. I'm working on a hybrid system, but not sure it works very well. I fish from a kayak now instead of a motorboat and it takes lots of concentration to keep 3 or 4 poles out of the tree tops. Strip I bet you and your son will enjoy sitting up there manning those rods. As far as your setup I've changed mine several times already and I bet you will to. You're doing the right thing with your setup. The other day when I was spider rigging there was times when I had fish hitting all 4 rods at the same time. But JigginPoleJoe I know what you mean about that thump. It can be as addicitve as cocaine.. That's why you'll see me spider rigging past a top and I'll have one pole in my hand jigging the holes in the top or laydown tree, I just can't help it. It's certainly not for everyone, I'm not sure it's what I want to do, but certain times of the year it gets hard to catch crappie on some lakes any other way. It beats staying home.
Strip, thats a neat setup you have there. I was wondering how you have it anchored down. Ive been wanting to try that but dont want to break the bank on a spider rig set up. Ive never tried it so I dont know for sure I would use it enough to spend that kinda money on it. Thanks for the pics and great idea. Oh, what size pvc is that anyhow.
I am going to anchor it down with some bungee cords hooked from a couple of the rod holder uprights to the lip on the outside of the boat. The frame and uprights are all built out of 1 1/4" the rod holders and the adjustable 90's are 1 1/2. I tried to build the holders out of the smaller stuff but it was just too tight to get the rods out easily. The 1 1/2 holders worked great. Notice in the picture that I slit both ends of the 90 and used hose clamps (only 1 installed) so I could adjust the rods both up and down and left and right. also see on the holder that I cut a groove in the bottom to accept the trigger on the baitcasters to lock them in place. they hold spinning rods well too.Attachment 61166
Strip, I'm gonna circle your boat in my yeller kayak and steal the fish off some of those poles when you ain't lookin. I don't think ya'll can keep up with all those poles.Rofl
LOl! ur probably right on that one, but I am playing odds. If I can't catch them on the strike, maybe I can tangle them up in the riggen!
Strip, When i first started,I did the same pvc thing, then modified it by using a flat piece of 3/16 aluminum with 3/4 in hole in one end to go under seat pedestal.I think it was 20 inches. You could save a lot of room by bending a 90 in front of plate, and screwing pvc to upright piece of plate, and its easy to store when not using .Just a thought. I finally got off pocketbook and bought Driftmaster rigging.
I have lots fun Spider riggin!!! here is my set up. 2 x 12'poles, 4 x 11' and 2 x 10'.

Driftmaster-Black River Tools Strip, check this site out and go to spider rigging page. You can probably make one, or get some good ideas
I made these from 6" pvc pipe.

I like the stick steer boat. You did good on the pvc. I saw those on someone else a while ago. A lot of whittling cutting those out.

First let me say Hi to everyone. Been lurking around for awhile and just joined a couple weeks ago. I really enjoy reading the reports and different techinques yall use. Spider riggin is about all i do. when i started i couldn't find anything i liked on the market so i started building my own. The first one like this i built was a pedstal mount now i have it on a quick release mount.
My first try. I hope these pics attach.
Dropoff,
Welcome to the board. Nice job on the rig. Guess thats why I stay on here so much. I need all the help I can get.
LOl! No matter how crafty I think I am, there is always someone with better ideas. Those are all some nice set ups. I am hampered by a few things on my boat that keeps me from building a bar type rigging. 1 is that my boat has a low freeboard which makes my trolling motor set high in the mount. Therefor anything in the swing path of deploy has to be about 30" high. secondly, my boat has a long v shaped bow which requires a long handle on my motor and me moving a lot to operate the boat. and last is that I am still in the process of setting this boat up. so everything about it is still temporary. I will be using 7' bass rods in my spider rigging set up because that is what I have. Maybe they will work, maybe not but atleast it will give me the idea on whether or not I want to spend the real money for a proper set up. Time will tell.
welcome, from cleveland county, ar. home of meatgetter jigs.
Hey dropoff! what part of the state r u from?
Welcome to the board and nice Rig Drop off, you should market those rod holders.:) When I spider rig I now Use two 14 foot rod's, two 12's, two 11s' and two 10's, I like my rod tips about no more than a foot off the surface, just easier for me to look down at the tips, keeps winds from messing with line and tips and seems like I catch more fish with the rods closer to the surface.
Hi strip I'm in paragould, it's in the northeast part of the state. I have started making a few and selling them, but no serious marketing. Afraid that might take the fun out of it, but i haven't dismissed it completely.
Drop off, what did you make the holders out of? Nice looking setup.
Cray, everything is aluminum except the rod holder mount and its made out of high density plastic and the screws are stainless steel. Hard to tell by the pics but the rod holder mounts are a cam lock. You just push the the lever down adjust your rod and pull it back up it lock it in place.
Welcome from Jonesboro. I have a few places to try those out
I build everything excepts for screws and nuts. I have spent about 5 or 6 years designing and deciding what i wanted. The first one was pretty crude but it caught fish just as good as the new one. This one is alot more user friendly.
Billy, i fish alot at poinsett , maybe i'll see you there sometime.
I have lots fun Spider riggin!!! here is my set up. 2 x 12'poles, 4 x 11' and 2 x 10'.

I love stick steer boats. I am convinced that unless you have a 18' or larger boat a stick steer is the way to go. I was looking at stick steers when I found the boat I have now. So far I wish I would have went ahead and got a stick steer boat. I like my boat, a stick steer is just easier and more comfortable to fish with.
The sticksteers are great to fish from but they are hard on your back in rough water.
Drop off I would buy a setup from you if you wouldn't mind making me one. [email protected]. thanks I have a 1542 war eagle
No problem at all to reach the front poles. I LOVE my stick steering boat!! very functional set up for all types of fishing. There are only 2 real draw backs i would say and they both go hand in hand...bad weather. when its raining and you are runnin for the boat dock you are right up in it with no place to go and rough water is bone jarring. I can guarantee if i bought another fishing boat it would be SS
