Wow that was easy. The bars are aluninum and the base is stainless. I am talking to a local guy that can anodize the aluminum.
Which means he can coat them with a color. I own a machine shop and the spider rigs are all CNC machined. Which means they were pretty fun to make for me. I like the clamp the best. One wing nut to set up or down on the rod or to move side to side can go 360 degrees on both.
The red knob locks them into the base which can also tun 360 degrees.
I would be happy to make some for anyone but I would like to get an order or two first. So then I will become a sponser member and sell them on the swap page so I can make a donation to the site.
good job cajun,they look good
Those look professionally made. I have plenty and dont need anymore but you might give a price on them for people to consider. Congrats on the posting picture thingy too.;):)
Looks good, I like the way you can adjust it 360 degrees.
I sent you a private message about your rod holders.
Good job on them
Nice job. You did a lot of thinking on this project.
those are deluxe
mickey did gooood.
They look great. Only thing is I just bought a bunch of HiTeks and it would be tough doing business with a guy who wears a Mickey hat.LOL
Looks good!
How much time do you got in em?
dkb
Those look great. They are sorta-kinda like what I built (minus the fancy clamps for the rod holders :D ). Have you checked to see how much bounce/spring you are going to get from your upright with rods in it? I wound up going with a larger diameter tube (conduit) around mine to stiffen it up because of the bounce.
I have not had that problem yet. I used 5/8 dia aluminum for the rods. Thats what some other guys had on the PRO models.
I am working on a price for all the parts today. And there will be $5.00 charge on each sale going to CDC. I know that don't sound like much but I am trying to keep the cost down and the materials are expensive.
What size of conduit did you use? 1/2?
As far as how much time. I am not a 100% sure yet. Mine were the first ones and I had fixtures to build to hold stuff and programs to adjust.
The biggest expence will be the material. The base is stainless and the rest is aluminum.
I wound up using 1 1/2" conduit (I just had a stick already onhand) around my upright, which is 1/2" cold rolled steel that I threaded on both ends. I have a wing nut that tightens down on my cross bar tight against the conduit that surrounds the upright, if that makes any sense.
They look good. Is the base a ss 3/4" pipe flange? The base is the only thing I'd change, I'd try to come up with something low profile that wouldn't be in the way when I wasn't spider rigging. I have the older Tite Lok rod holders and the bases are in the way, plus they are not very stable.
No the base is a solid pcs of stainless that I turned on my CNC lathe.
I looked into making them sink into the floor but you would have to drill such a big hole I thought it would ripp the carpet.
Then how would u tighten the rod into the base?
I'm with the other guy on the low profile thing. I am clumzy enough in a boat. The Tite Lok's I have, have the track system reciever. That's the main reason I stay with those bulky, hard to stow suckers. If it wasn't for that low profile mounting system I'd change. Tite-Lok Inc.
As far as sinking them in the floor... You could thread the base reciever and use a jam nut on the pole. That track system is pretty hard to beat though. http://www.titelok.com/product_info....1e3d1336de2715
You want me to pick you up one of those Grizzly Double seat bases while I'm there Thursday & save ya $30 on ship'n? GRIZCO SEAT STAND Heck I forgot... I bet you could make 1 pretty cheap.
Well I can make a base like that also. More cost to thread and make the jam nut. I am waiting on the screws I ordered to mount mine today.
I was going to mount my base close to the edge so it won't be as much in the way. I guess there is a 100 ways to skin a cat.
I wanted to make mine so they would break down and store in as little of space as possible. And no tools to fall in the lake or have to keep track of. I could make the 2 seat deal two. I don't know about how cheap it would be. I don't see how some of these guys do it.
I am buying american material and paying AMERICAN wages. And that will never change. I will go out of business before I SELL OUT.
You don't want to mount the base too close to the edge. If you do you will have part of your "T" bar hanging over the side of the boat. Might make it hard to reach a pole.
I really would consider going to that track style mount though. You've seen how mine mound haven't you? If you make the base on the pole that goes in the reciever oval you can even rotate and adjust the angle of "T" bar to some degree. It won't make any difference in the storage.
Those are really gonna be nice when you get done.
My bases are threaded and I use a jam nut to screw down the upright.
Getting the bases out of the way is also why I have them mounted to the accessory rail on the gunwale. I can leave them in there and remove the T or take the whole thing out in a matter of a couple of minutes.
Wiskers, I'm gonna have your crew pick me up one of those bases and possibly two (one for a buddy) if I can figure out how to get the money to you guys between now and then. I would just give mrdux my credit card but he would probably go hog wild with it. :D
I appreciate it, guys.
You better split your winnings with me.. :D
have I got any money left in the bank? :D
Well, I don't know what you started with but you now have considerably less! The whole gang thanks you and the Grizzly folks were talking about putting your picture on the wall. Something about their all-time big-buyer club.
Good looking set up!
