That's a good question Josh......You members need to be thinking about who and where for 2011???
I don't think you could have it at a better lake than Eufaula. Only problem with that is the majority of the work tends to fall on the guys and gals who live down there. Some of the work can be done by us who live elsewhere, but the majority of the work will need to be done by those who live the closest to the meeting. If Lip or Stink want to get it started I will be the first to volunteer to help in any way I can. We could even have a vote on the place and date. I personally would vote for Eufaula anytime in April. The weather and the fishing are typically the best for everyone that time of year. Just my opinion. Someone take charge and lets get this thing started.
Odie
Eufaula is a great place to have the meeting. I think Lip Ripper and Stink done a GREAT job last year. We would help if it wasn't a 3 hr drive, one way, for us. There's my 2 cents!
I am in total agreement with Odie. They did a bang up job this year. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it was just the same in 2011?
I guess I'll drop a hint on my recent negotiations with Mcalester Expo Center for a 3 day show. More time to be flexable for everyone to at least get in one day or all three days. I cant speak for everyone, but Stink, George, and Sissy & I felt like we missed too much of last years meeting to visit with everyone with all the things to do....kinda hectic to say the least. This venue is BIG and would accomodate a boat, tackle, exibit, seminar....you name it crappie show. I have tentative commitments from several folks already.....IF we can swing the cost on this. Chime in and let us know what your thoughts are please.
Just to add, I will also try to get Todd & Barry, and the McAlester Expo tells me they will handle all consessions for us too.
Hurray..sounds like things are moving in the right direction..We will help anyway we can. Wish we were closer but maybe we could come in a day early or something...just let us know.
I suggest we give Leland time to do a feasibility study on getting the Expo Center in McAlester. If it turns out to be beyond our means, then we can consider other options.
I think it's a grand idea to have it at the Expo Center where we will have plenty of parking and space inside.
These "Get-Togethers" keep growing each year, we'll have to have a larger facility.:)
Ok, I am back from the Farm. Now that my caregiving is over I will have some free time, HA HA. If we have a date I can start harassing, excuse me, asking vendors if they might be interested in coming. I don't know if I am going to make the slip bobbers again. That was alot of work and I have not used one since I made them last year. That may change this year though. I know that BEE READY Rod Holders were game if the price is right as well as Lucky Lure Co. I'll discuss with Leland and stink and see WHAT HAPPENS.
I gotta make it to this one. I didn't hear one person say it could have been any better last year. Sure look forward to going no matter where its held. I'd be glad to help too.
Another thought...,If we do manage to lease the Expo understand the general public must be allowed in as well to help offset the cost, which I dont see as a problem as we can all see fellow members there anyway.
If anyone thinks this would dilute the format of our CDC format, then we would need to lease a private building,ie; community center, county fairgrounds ect.
Your thoughts please so this can be resolved quickly.
Remember, we know each other through the CDC but we are not bound by it.
Is this open to all? Think it would be great to meet all of you people!
Fanatic, yes it is open to all. We have been having an annual meeting initiated by CDC members but has always been open to the public. It is a chance to put a face with a screen name. We always eat well at these events and usually have a guide give a talk about different techniques. Last year we had 4 or 5 vendors come and talk about their products.
Lip I am game for more than a one day gig. I do like the idea of having a meeting type get-together on one of the 3 days. The meeting allows for more personable time and to have a seminar geared toward us CDC members or guests. I will help in any way I can and may be able to get some donations also. If the 3 day gig doesn't work out I would at least like to have a Friday evening / Saturday morning get together. Friday could be more of a meet and socialize with maybe one or 2 speakers, then have our regular get-together on Saturday. Just an idea. I'll do whatever I need to. Just hope we get the date set by Dec. 15th so I can schedule a day of vacation.
Odie
Thanks Odie, Don, Southernwoman, Rigrunner, Stink, And George. Sissy and I are on the phone with the McAlester Expo today and will give feedback on our feasability and hammer out some options. After our initial discussions with them they expressed excitement to have one back again and stated "we will work with you to make this happen"....very encouraging in this depressed economy. One thing I've learned over the years fisherman continue to support their sport to the full. We have kicked it around but after last years event it's apparent we need more space and parking. Crappie fishing is now #1 and we know why.
Here's what we know so far;
#1] We have the Expo!!!
#2] Security? Yes it will be provided.
#3] Food ? Yes provided by the Expo.
#4] P.A. System? Yes, also provided.
#5] Seperate room for a CDC meeting? Yes.
All those for late March / early April dates of Thurs. Fri. Sat. Sun. {Turs.} is setup day for vendors} Please cast your votes NOW, so the dates can be published in Oklahoma Today Mag. before Oct 30 deadline.
Also we are writing a request to the city of McAlester for cooperative assistance from them to help with expenses for the show.
Feel free to contact us by phone or P.M. with any ideas or input you feel is needed. Thanks Leland & Sissy.
i would say probally early april :)
if everything goes right health/weather permiting ill bring my new son and my wife :) but it will depend on little man and mama and how they feel :)
The Southerwoman and myself are very flexible, any time is fine for us. We're retired so the work schedule is not a problem here.
I like April..less bad weather for us who travel a good distance. Boy, you guys are really moving it along. GREAT!
April is good for my Wife and I as well.
But I have one lingering reservation...if the Expo is providing the food...then that means there'll be no Pecan Pies, Banana Pudding or smoked meats?
I'm not so sure this is a good idea after all! :(
I guess we could always smuggle some into the CDC meeting...;)
I'd love to go. My wife and I are expecting our first child mid march...so may not be able to attend..but I will try.
Late March, I want to be fishing in April.
We may miss some if we have it in April due to fishing.
Gman
We also thought late March as well, or mid-March. These things are like a salad......throw in some more goodies-toss & serve. The name of this event will be the Oklahoma Crappie Expo. We are meeting this Friday at the location to discuss final preperations and total footage, tables and how the layout may be divided up. Thanks everyone and keep in touch as we progress with the 2011 event.
I didn't get the opportunity to make the Spring 2010 event, but hope to be there this next spring. I'm retired so late March/early April works for me.
March 26 or April 2 of 2011 would be great. And We help in anyway i can.
What no pecan pie or smoked pork??????????? gee i don't know if I will go. Sniff, sniff, hurt my peewings no pecan pie.:(
it don't really matter to me either I'll go for the majority vote I'm flexible :)
I am flexible too
I can sneak a pecan pie or 2 in if I can manage to get away from the shop :)
LOL,LOL bait101, how funny. I guess I need to head up to OOlogah and come by your store. Your in Nowata aren't you?
Yes sir !! We are located up in town on 305 E. Cherokee , White building ,, big red letters . Would love to meet ya !! :)
Let me know when this will be,, I'd liek to attend my first meeting and visit with all of you. Am new to crappie fishing and need all the help I can get on the gentle giant
Any word on the next meeting? Haven't heard anything in a while. If having a big get together with lunch is too much touble we could do something else. I would be just for a get together on a Friday or Saturday night to visit and maybe have some guest speakers . We could also still give away some door prizes. Are there any eating places with a big enough room to handle 100 or so people in the Eufaula area? That way we would not have to cook or clean. Most of us want to fish while we are down there so a meeting at night would allow for fishing during the day. Just throwing out some options, I really enjoyed the meeting and hate to see us not have one.
Odie
The Expo in McAlester fell through. We have the hwy. #9 community center or the VFW hall, both these will hold 100 plus. That's a good idea Odie to hold it at night. How does catering BBQ from Massey's in Okmulgee sound to ya'll?
Sounds GREAT to me!!
