i prefer to keep em alive in the livewell and then throw the ice to em on the ride home............
During cooler weather I let 'em swim around in a large cooler. That way it's easy to cull fish if/when necessary. And...if the catch turns out skinny it's easy to release the few you have. During hot weather I keep froze gatorade bottles in the freezer in my barn and line the bottom of the cooler with 'em (that's about 4" of ice in the bottom of the cooler). I just toss 'em in and close the lid. The fish are nice and cool when I get 'em back out of the cooler to clean 'em when I get home. Those froze bottles keep me from making additional stops getting to the lake and all I have to do when I get home is rinse them off and back in the freezer they go.;):)
I've become a fan of the fish basket here lately. Then they get thrown on ice for the trip home.
ditto the people who im testing for the fish pics will be in a basket
Mine has a floating lid as well. And I put a long chunk of rope on it so I can tie it off to a stick or rock...
I'll basket my gills if shore fishing, any other time everything goes directly on ice.
I use a livewell when the water temp is cooler. When it gets hot during the summer they go directly to the ice. Gatorade bottles will be going into my freezer, Thanks for the tip Gabowman.....
I alway have a cooler full of ice for my catch, although when the temps are as hot as they are now, ice won't last all day, I don't have a livewell so I use a basket, but would use a livewell if I had it.
Gotta go with the ice in the cooler

Ice!
Ice only for me when it's hot. Purchase a good cooler and the ice will last alot longer. When it's cooler outside I use my livewel.
Ice
I like the ice right away, keeps them fresh and easy to fillet. Also a nice tip for your fish basket even if you have a floating lid. Take one of those long floating noodles that your kids or grandkids use in the pool or lake and run a rope though the hollow part in the middle cut it to size and wrap it around the neck of your basket tie the ends together and it will never sink.
Works like a champ and is cheap.

I am a bank fisherman so my method of choice is a cooler full of ice. I believe stringers and the wire baskets do more harm as far as freshness than good. Give me a cooler anyday plus you can sit on it.

Ice.
I like to keep them in my livewell. I have a timer on the well and it keeps the fish alive with fresh water and also, I can release em if I decide to. For the ride home they go into a ice chest.
