Thread: Keeping fish: livewell or on ice?

i prefer to keep em alive in the livewell and then throw the ice to em on the ride home............

During cooler weather I let 'em swim around in a large cooler. That way it's easy to cull fish if/when necessary. And...if the catch turns out skinny it's easy to release the few you have. During hot weather I keep froze gatorade bottles in the freezer in my barn and line the bottom of the cooler with 'em (that's about 4" of ice in the bottom of the cooler). I just toss 'em in and close the lid. The fish are nice and cool when I get 'em back out of the cooler to clean 'em when I get home. Those froze bottles keep me from making additional stops getting to the lake and all I have to do when I get home is rinse them off and back in the freezer they go.

I've become a fan of the fish basket here lately. Then they get thrown on ice for the trip home.

I was a fan until I lost a few of them on the bottom of the lake... Felt so bad I almost marked the spot and went and got my dive gear to go get them.

ditto the people who im testing for the fish pics will be in a basket

All the ones I've ever used floated, buoyant hollow plastic top that keeps it from sinking!

I use the basket when fishing from shore. When I'm in the boat I use the livewell.

I must have has a lot bigger fish in mine than Weighted it down:D
