Just an FYI: the most recent software update allows for a faster GPS refresh rate which helps in traveling back to a waypoint. The “donut” that CP and others refer to is our way of showing that the GPS Receiver does not detect any movement which will happen at very, very low speeds.

if the gps doesnt detect movement why is the speed on there.
jaxsprat i think its a as gr 50
Try another speed window. The speed display might be screwed up showing false speed. My guess.
YOU are gonna have to explain that to me. PLease
The speed is by gps how can it be wrong unless the antenna is bad right?
ok cane pole walk me through it what menu?what do i change? I just cant see how gps could be inaccurate.
Had the donut on my 788 yesterday at .4mph or less.
Gps is great, but it ain't dead-nuts perfect. We were trying to run a ~15' +/- wide channel one day. Icon center channel, 2d showed us up on the break. Just one example. Trolling no biggie, but don't be skinned back trying to run a small channel lined with stumps high enough to knock a lower unit off. You'll really be disappointed in gps then.
What is a donut?
Best thing to do is use a handheld that works and verify the HB unit next time out.
Don't forget folks. i ain't been on the water in 4 months. I just doing recall on this stuff. Sometimes it is fuzzy. Recall that is, not my chit.
my m.p.h. never went to o.o although it was pretty windy. Could not control boat most of time speed was in reverse or side ways. I thought of handheld also next time i have a garmin.
Oh cane pole i almost forgot I have a 14ft. john with a 10hp. against the wind flat out speed said 6.6 to 6.9. does that sound about right.
You guys lost me. What is the donut for ?
My 1197 has the newest software upgrade and I use the ASGR-HA 1 meter accuracy GPS antenae.....
My speed reads down to 0.1 mph no matter what direction my boat is going...forward, backward, sideways, crossways....
The directional arrow turns into a donut below 0.6 mph.....
The donut does, in fact, move on the chart below 0.6 mph....but only actually about every 6-8 seconds...
HB claims that the the new software allows 4 X second GPS position update..
If the GPS speed readout is showing mph (indicating movement) ...even as low as 0.1mph...then one would tend to believe that the antenae does, in fact, know where it is and where it was 1/4 of a second ago...
Now, why this donut is not reflectling this knowledge of detecting movement every 1/4 of a second and showing this movement on the chart...:confused:
I donut know
