11) a/c needs a fixin

And yet another problem. Tried to fill with freon and pop goes the weasel. Sprung a leak right away. But at least I did hear the compressor kick on. Well at least the system is empty, sorry environment! Anyone know how bad the new freon really is for the environment? Dono

Anyway, I definitely need ac living here in Florida so I will be attacking this problem with a vengeance. But the thing is, this is one automotive system I've done little to no work on ever other than just recharging them. Onward and upward.

134a is not as bad as the old stuff that it replaced.

Unfortunately R134a, R410 are both Sunsetting, I have started hording as R134a is up to $450 a 30#'er. All the new refrigerants are flammable, no service ports on the equipment. Agreement in the Canadian Accords (someone who doesn't need Air Conditioning) set the new standards that Our Government agreed to.

Slab you can use Nitrogen to pressurize your system and use Snoopy to look for all the leaks under the hood. Dye and a Black Light really helps. I would personally replace everything (buy your parts at RockAuto) under the hood and hope the Evaporator is good. Buying and using R134a to pressurize and repair the system will run you broke. If the compressor has been sitting for a long time the front shaft seal hardens, shrinks, and loose refrigerant at a slow rate causing a periodic need to recharge. You don't want to start out like that. Leaks usually have a oily residue on the undersides where the compressor lubricant has seeped past a o-ring.

I bought some 410 recently. Definitely expensive

If anyone needs new HVAC equipment in their homes or expect to you want to buy it this year if possible. The new stuff will not be serviceable. The copper tubing will need cutting off, servicing the system, charged, and copper re-crimped and soldered.
