How close is to close?

How close is to close to troll up and start fishing next to another boat?

Let me set the scene for you. There was one boat that was leaving out from the boat ramp as me and buddy were putting my boat in.

I watched them to see where they were going(keep in mind this is just before daylight). They were going the direction I had planned to fish as well. So we creep out from the dock. We found the boat that had just left the dock.

So we went on passed them three or four boathouses 100 yd or so. We start fishing 30 min or so a here they come passed us. So we continue fishing. We hear another boat coming toward us. And wouldn't you knowit same boat from the ramp. They trolled up and started fishing same boathouse as us and even fished the front as we were fishing the side of the it. Close enough I could have casted and hit his boat with no problem.

So my question is. Is it me or was this just a little inconsiderate? I personally will just move on around someone let them fish the spot and try to find fish else where. Sorry for the long post this just rubbed me the wrong way yesterday. So I wanted to put it out there and see what y'alls thoughts were. Thank you

IMO fishing the same boathouse is a no no. If you're both fishing boathouses, playing leap frog would be ok. I would even try strike up a conversation. You never know what you might learn. Hell, you could possibly make a life long fishing buddy. Its happened to me several times. On open water I try to keep a minimum of 100 yds if possible.

No consideration of others. We steer clear of other boats. Clearly 100 td rule should be understood.

IMO... fishing the same boat dock equals fishing the same brushpile. That’s definitely a no, no unless “invited” to do so. Leapfrogging would be ok (but I’ll not even do that, I’ll find someplace else.)

I have pulled up and fished a boat house not knowing that someone was on the back side but soon as I found out I apologized and moved on I always try to keep a good distance and if you are their first it’s yours! I never try to cut in front of any body and I always try to strike up a conversation. But a lot of folks aren’t friendly like they used to be most folks now days it’s all about them they could care less about others!

I don't mind someone fishing around me within reason! The same boat house is not within reason and would be a problem though! Nothing surprises me with folks out on the water these days! They are some colorful folks out there that must not get out much!

To me that is to close probably would have blown a head gasket.

I will not ride in on top of somebody like that. I think leapfrogging on docks or boat houses is acceptable. Under a bridge with a lot of other boats, not such a big deal. Open water, I try to stay my casting distance plus theirs separation over an area, or just go someplace else.

Not acceptable, not the same boat dock, I try to stay clear of other people, fishing around me is ok, but the same brush or dock then I would have had to speak to them.

You had your answer in the 4th paragraph" they were close enough I could cast and hit them) If they are that close then they are being inconsiderate and if they happen to catch a stray cast from a jig head then so be it, standard reply back when they get raw about it is , I couldn't hit you if you weren't too close. I try to hope they will go on and give them about 15 min then the patience meter has run out and oops sorry my cast went a little wild....... The worst thing that will happen is if they catch a fish then they aint moving for a long while... my late dads name for anyone that got too close was "parasites" as they cant go off and find their on fishing spot
