Transporting and storing your rods

I mostly long line for crappie. Any of you guys have any secrets for transporting your rods to the lake and make without getting a bunch of tangled? I typically fish two jigs on each rod and that makes for some interesting tangles if I leave the jigs on the lines for transporting.

I like having everything set up so when I get to the lake all I have to do is set them out.

So how do you guys do this?

Hook the bottom jig on the reel end of your rod and take up the slack line with the reel. Place the rod butt on the ground or floor of boat. While holding the rod in one hand and the fishing line in the other, spin the rod around two or three times. The line will be twisted around the rod from tip to butt. It sounds like a mess, but if you try it a few times, you'll get the hang of it. You can also use a mechanical means of keeping them separated like tip savers from Driftmaster.

I have a trolling bar on the back for long linning, and in between the rod holders I spit pieces of swim noodle and put around the bar and then I lay the rods like shadboy said butt end on the floor of the boat and I lean the tips against the noodle, I use snap swivel on my line, then I have pre tied double jigs and I wrap them around pieces of swim noodle and put them on when I hit the water, works great. The picture is sideways and it don't have the noodle in between the rod holders but you can see where they go. Hope this helps

I use the Driftmaster setup and the noodles. It only takes a minute to wrap up the leaders.

Gaboman(Butch)on the SC forum taught me the wrapping trick several years ago. It works well, even though sometimes hooks have a mind of their own.

Wrap line as most others have said,then I take approx. 3" strip of velcro and wrap second jig to keep it secured. You can get a roll @ Wallyworld for around 5 bucks, 3/4"x12'. Works great for me as I mostly longline double jigs too.

it only took me one trip to figure out you have to use something to keep everything together. I am just like you. I like to have my stuff ready. I bought a roll of double sided Velcro. Cut a piece lone enough to go around you rod twice. I think you get the idea. Keeps everything neat.
