Hook the bottom jig on the reel end of your rod and take up the slack line with the reel. Place the rod butt on the ground or floor of boat. While holding the rod in one hand and the fishing line in the other, spin the rod around two or three times. The line will be twisted around the rod from tip to butt. It sounds like a mess, but if you try it a few times, you'll get the hang of it. You can also use a mechanical means of keeping them separated like tip savers from Driftmaster.
