I have a Lowrance HDS gen 1. That flips to the start up screen for no reason. I will just be running along everything fine then I am looking at the start up screen. It stays in that mode for awhile but eventually boots back up to whatever screen I was using. I have checked and rechecked all connections on the unit the structure scan module and the battery connects everything is tight. Is it just getting old or does someone have some magic for me. Thanks in advance.
If it is not associated with hitting waves or some impact that would jostle a loose wire somewhere it may well be internal to the processor. If you just turn it on with the boat sitting on the trailer will it do it?
My HB would cut off and restart on me with the slightest jar on the water. I finally found a loose connection where it plugged into the fuse box under the dash. Electronics are very susceptible to voltage spikes so it does not take much to cause on to reboot.
Does not seem to react to waves or anything like that just setting on fairly calm water and it goes to startup screen. Will stay on while running on rough water most of the time.
how old is the battery you are using? How many volts does the unit show when not moving and how many when running?

What maps do you have. I had that same problem and I use Jack Bakers maps. I bought just his KS maps and everything was fine but after about a year and half I started having the same problem. I think it was after a updated download. I went and updated my maps with jack to include MO and all the problems went a way. I still did not know it was the maps until I bought a another HDS 8 gen 2 last March plugged it in and put that map chip in it and it did the same thing. Take out your map chip and see if it does the same thing, if not you know your problem. Please do not feel like I am saying Jacks maps have problems, I love that guy and think his maps are the best. I did want to clarify that.

'Most' electric problems can be solved by 'direct' wiring of units to battery. Regardless of make or brand. I've done this on all the HDS units I have own. It still may be the battery. This just eliminates a lot of connections that could also be the problem. Hope this helps. <*)}}}><
Absolutely agree. Also, if you have long wire runs between the source and the load. DC voltage drop can be significant. If your or the border of the low voltage cutoff point. You can have erratic operation. Only way to compensate is big wires. I have this problem on my boat. Battery voltage of 12.3v equals 11.1v at the front of the boat. Fishfinder shuts off when Im not running and drain a little voltage. Center counsole is good, but gets a low voltage alarm on startup. And may shutdown if Im running the big spot lights a lot. This calculator works pretty good. Need real voltage at source and true load amps. Also can be used for runs off fuse blocks. Need voltage and load amps. Just calculate from connection. Each run of each wire size from source to load can be added together to get total voltage drop. Other method is just take the voltage measurements with a good meter when under normal operateing conditions and see what the numbers are.Quote:
