call me ignorant but the connectors come with one size wire. Are we talking about just running heavy wire then splicing to connector wire.

Not sure what ur asking. Only an issue if you see excessive voltage drop. Connectors and wire come in all sizes. But each connection adds resistance and contributes to voltage drop.
Have had the same problem...EXACTLY the same problem. Like CC says I think I have 1 to many switches. I wired it up according to how Lowrance recommends.
All mine run direct from battery to sidescan model and to the unit.
I have read on several board about electronics rebooting.
Sometimes, it happens when starting the big motor (Usually a marginal battery).

Marginal battery / wiring /Connections / fuses / switches will cause all types of crazy problems.:dono
Something else - I put "dielectric" grease on all my cable connections both at the unit / fuses / battery.
This helps with connectivity and corrosion.
You can get it at any auto parts store.

Does not go off when starting just reboots on its own for no particular reason. Now after unit has been on for and hour or so it quits rebooting and stays on. I think it is just getting old like me. I need to reboot first thing in morning with coffee a couple times. Maybe sprinkle it with some black coffee would help
I guess I will look around maybe find someone updating a Gen two or three that I can get reasonable.
