With all this rain since just before Christmas the lake has come back from being 13 feet down and as of this morning it's less than 2 feet low & more will come down in the next week plus even the streams around here are still full dumping into the lake. So it should be full soon!
Excellent! I have been watching the levels. I remember last Fall when it was 157.5', sure made me nervous. I'll be there for a week after Easter - can't wait. I guess I'll try the back of the coves first. Thanks for the post.
fishing right now is tough and I think part is the water clarity, but in a minor way. The big thing is it was on during pre-spawn because all the hydrilla is in deeper water due to the lake being down so lots of hydrilla in 10' to 20' of water, maybe even deeper with none in less than 10' so the fish that usually this time of year hold in 6' to 7' of water are not there and I don't know where they are yet because I have not been on the lake except for 1/2 day and the wind was blowing like crazy. Caught a few, but really tough where I am. This morning they say 170.32, but from all the rain here it's still pouring in and from all the rain up East of Dallas it will keep coming for at least a week.
Thanks. That's what I figured about the hydrilla and the grass beds. Looks like it will be at full pool before long, so I will have to rethink on how I'll approach it. I did well pulling crankbaits last summer.
I just got a hydraulic Jack Plat put on my boat yesterday and hopefully it will let me keep my boat in my shed longer and still get out. However last time it got stranded because of the boards were rotten and I didn't know it until it was to late for me to change them. So it's out for the first time since Sept. 2010. Also should let me put through the woods with less hitting of stumps and maybe help performance a little. Mostly though to run slow in shallow water.
how was the fishing this weekend? thinking i might spend a few day down around huxely next week and would apperciate and tips yall might give.

Sorry to be a bit slow replying, but just busy as heck. Painted jig heads all day.
As for the fishing, it's now as good as it was a few weeks ago, but think that has a lot to do with 2 things. Fast water rising like 4' and all the hydrilla is not 10 feet of water and deeper with none shallower than that. Some are being caught kind of shallow and some doing pretty good I hear. I have not been and am about to start some as I got my boat out a couple weeks ago for the first time in 1 1/2 years and had a jack plat put on. I need to have it raised 2 more holes and it's back in my slings and fishing again.
It may take some looking, but some are catching fish, just not as easy as it was before the 4 foot jump is water.
thanks for the info skip. i was wondering when you paint your pony heads have you tried dipping the swivel and eye in water after heating and before dipping into the powder? i just bought the molds and all the stuff to make my own and i had seen were a feller on here recommended doing that and seeing as you also paint your own would you give your opinion on this application.

I just wrap my swivels in tin foil and after painting them I take the foil off before curing it. I like to use a counting method for all my time in the flame and then right in tot he paint for a fast swish back and forth and out. If I had to cool or wet the swivel, just don't see how that would be easy. It takes time to mess with them, but I just like fishing them especially in the 1/32 Oz. Sometimes paint may get on the top of the barrel of the swivel, but that really doesn't keep it from turning on the business end.
So I just cut little pieces of foil that I can cover most all the swivel and do that.
Thank you very much, i will get busy cutting and wrapping. I have not got into tying them i was going to put plastic on them. it is a shame how expensive they have gotten over the years so im gonna make my own because i am pretty good at leaving them in brush tops. LOL
