braided line ?

for you trollers or spidder riggers if you use braided line do you use a leader or tye straight on the braid with a jig or hook ?????????? and what brand do you use???????

tried using it before meat but the bad thing about was when i got hung up it snaped my rod before the line broke, if you were to be using a leader you mite as well be using your whole spool with fluorocarbon, its alot less stressful. i like 6lb p-line evolution, very tough stuff

I thought about that too meat but after snapping a pole I don't think I am gonna go that route. I would rather snap the line then snap my rods. I have been using 6lb myself. Nice catalog and thanks for the groceries today.

Hey Jerry. I don't use braid for earlier mentioned reasons. It breaks rods. I tie my own rigs so it isn't as bad because the rig breaks first. It's just as easy to use a heavier hi viz main line so you can see it, then use a lighter line for your rigs. I like the silver thread an-40 in a 6 or 8 lb. The AN-40 has a smaller diameter. 6 is like 4-5 and the 8 is like 6-7.

I use Power Pro braid for pulling cranks. I have only broken 1 rod and that was my fault for letting it get wrapped around the end of the rod before it got hung.

MG, I don't use braid for spider riggin due to a trip I went on with a buddy. He was using braid tied straight to the jigs. I was out catching him by a bunch using mono. He tied on a leader of mono and started catching too. The fish can see it, or at least did on that day. I wouldn't call this water clear, but slightly stained. You could see a jig down 2 ft. maybe.

I tried braided line one time and after the first tangle I swore I would not use it again. I now mostly use 6# flourocarbon and I currently use the Berkley transition vanish for spider rigging and crankbaits. For the ultra light rods with a slipcork I like 4# P-line. I caught a 9 lb bass out of lake Monticello on the 4# P-line last summer....it took 25 minutes to get him to the boat. Once I got him in the open water he was as good as caught....just a matter of time with the drag set light.

I have recently switched to braid in the last couple of years, I use a 10/2 braid, 10 lbs strength with 2 lb diameter, I would not switch back to monofiliment myself, I have not broken any rods thus far( knock on wood ). the advantages of braid over monofiliment is probably more of a opinion. the only trouble I have had with it is that when I get hung up in struture I pull my hook loose and after a couple of times of pulling it loose, it opens the eye of the hook or jig, and the hook will slip off of my loop, because the diameter is so small on the line passes through.

I do use braid with a leader for pulling cranks, and have never broke a rod, even when walleye fishing, but with 12-16' trolling poles, Spider Rigging, I have broke several when using braid so I don't use it for Spider Rigging any more. Pulling cranks it works great, and I use 10 lb Fireline Crystal. Gonna try the Tuf Line 10/2 in red next.
