Crankbaits

thinkin im gona push crankbaits rather than pull um..any advice on setting up my line?

2-3 oz sinker with around a 30" trailer under it. Prob lots of stuff on crankbait 101.

I usually put a 3 or 4 ounce egg sinker above a barrel swivel. Then a 3 or 4 foot leader to a snap swivel and a crankbait,

I caught a good many last year pushing cranks. At 2 MPH I was using 6 to 8 oz of weight then 4 feet of leader n the crank

Takes a stout holder to do it. Lot of torque with the weight and pull of the crank. Personally, I'm a'gin it. Give the fish too much leverage with the weight and you end up having a lot of fish pull off and regular cranking speed. I think it'd be better at lower speeds, say 1.0 to 1.3 and at times, the fish may want the slower presentation and you'll pummel us pulling in the 1.5 to 2.0 range though. It is easier to make precise presentations like that though, say following a creek channel or hitting a hump repeatedly. Quicker turns.

I was a'gin it too until I got the I-pilot.. Now it's whatever the situation calls for. May be jus me, but, B4 it was very hard to land a good fish from the front even tho I had the Maxuum set to go straight. Was always afraid to get up and work the fish to the back of the boat. It IS a lot of pressure on the holders, but ability to follow a tighter pattern is sometimes worth it. Open water, pull is the way 4 me..

I usually do it when I want that 4th rod out each side. Usually run 3 due to not wanting as many tangles. I had 3 out each side last year and one double rigged jig setup out each side with 4 oz of weights. Caught ALOT of fish on the jigs that way

Place a bead beteen the egg sinker and the swivel to protect your knot. ScottV and SteveJ push and pull at the same time......Scott pushes 4 poles and pulls 4 poles all from the front of the boat. I have been with him doing this and it works great. I did not keep up with the count but we caught a lot of fish on the four push poles. He ran the TM at 1.8 mph. He used 3 oz. weights on the push poles if I remember right.
