is the whole lake open now?
Sweet, were still drilling 12 inches of ice to find soft water.:dono
Fished Sangchris Thursday. Going over Tovey bridge in the east arm, ice as far as you could see. We stayed in the hot ditch. Strawkas ramp was mostly covered with snow and wouldn't have tried it without 4 wheel drive. Water was 52-54 degrees and like Crappie Scout posted, lots of fish biting. Caught around 200 but our keeper ratio was about 1 out of 15. Biggest maybe 11 1/2" Still fun and great to see open water.
Good report thanks cropee7
Great. Sounds like fun
Looks like everyone will be at Sanchris once they read this. Maybe that's why so many out of staters were at Coffeen this last weekend? :scratchhead
Don't know why anyone would come from out of state to catch 9 1/2" fish but if they do, they will be more than welcome. If I was them, I'd stop at Coffeen too!!!
A lot of st.Louis guys hit coffeen cause it's close to them. I drive 2 hrs. to fish coffeen and a hour to fish sangchris and Newton
Well, I don't think I said anything about out-of-staters going to Sanchris, but I do know that when you put up posts like that, it'll be hard to find a parking spot at the ramp. I don't know too many crappie fisherman that like lots of boat traffic ...JS
My purpose for posting is simply to share fishing information. Ice and ramp conditions along with water temperatures is helpful this time of year when everyone is looking for open water. Anybody who is actually fishing already knows what's going on at SANGCHRIS. If your purpose for posting is to protect your lake, that's OK with me. Keep doin' what you're doin' and I'll do the same.
I was thinking about going over there Saturday but not sure now because of the forecast. I've only been once, is the ramp over by the stacks, is that the hot water ditch and I'm assuming it's accesible? Thanks for the updates!
If you don't want people from out of state fishing areas, then whats next, out of towners. I'm just saying with this long winter, people are going stir crazy and just want to wet a line. Just put up with it for another month and you will have your little body of water to yourselves. I hope people don't take this the wrong way.
As always Pat you hit the nail on the head well said
Has nothing to do with giving someone an "Atta boy " on a fishing report. This site is about sharing information and learning new techniques and sometimes poking fun at others :)... Pat I couldn't have said it better myself !!
Look, I see both sides of this, I really do. God bless this country and the freedom we have to go fishing let alone the freedom to post about it. When I started posting here, I guess what I have a problem with is that when you start posting numbers like 50 and 200+, you inadvertently lure in the googans that wont even man up and put a name to their post on here. If you're lucky, they will respond as "guest". Most of the lurkers will just read it and jump in the truck to head to the lake. These are more likely the disrespectful jackasses that I have literrally gotten my lines tangled with because they can't give a fellow fisherman the simple respect of ample space enough to cast a line. I know that no one registered here would ever do that! I really am not trying to protect "my little piece of water"! Sorry I made your panties bunch up but I don't think any of you can disagree with that. Anyway, that's my rant. Thanks for listening. :)
AMEN travish10...I wonder when people are going to start giving out their favorite mushroom spot or the combination to their gun safe on here, cause to me it's the same thing...there is a big difference between water temp and lake info versus I caught 200+ fish in this area using this bait...I say fine with the lake info, but if you were any kind of serious fisherman you would keep certain info under your hat. It doesn't take public areas long to fill up with weekend warriors and fair weather fisherman once it hits crappie.com. I've been fishing Coffeen, Sangchris and a couple other places since goose season went out, and when I pulled into the parking lot at Coffeen a couple Wednesdays ago and saw 47 trucks, 6 of which were from Missouri I instantly knew what happened. Same went for Sangchris a couple years ago when I ran into two groups from Iowa...now why would anyone want to come to central Illinois from Iowa, Missouri and several other states to crappie fish? I know it's public water and there isn't a lot we can do, but it sure does get old having people literally follow you around the lake and GPS your brush piles...and a couple of those people are on here and I won't mention their names cause they talk a big game and I wouldn't want to ruin their "reputation"...and that's my rant...just sayin
If when you report just give whatever lake your fishing a name and ask that if you want info. Just send a pm. Its that easy. Yeah the lurkers are everywhere. Pm's will offset that a little. Take some tips from the southern boys on the ark forum. Problem solved.
I fish Coffeen quite a bit. I just thought I would weigh in. When you drop that pile of brush into the water of a public lake, it no longer is your brush pile. Every tax payer in "the Politically Corrupt State of Illinois" now has a right to fish over it. Put brush piles to help the fish habitat. Travish10 or Slab187 have you ever fished Kentucky Lake, Mark Twain, Sardis, Grenada, or anywhere else out of state? The locals that I have talked to in those areas were always willing to help. There are rude people everywhere and the license plate on their truck is no indication of that.
Bubbabeck I think you missed my point...I never said out of state people are rude in fact every out of state fisherman I have ran into was very nice...now a couple of the people that are from Illinois that post on here pretty regular are very rude fisherman, but I won't mention their names and it's only a couple people, not everyone. I have fished every lake you mentioned and several more out of state lakes and not one time did I ever ask for advice on their lakes...my point was, with places like you mentioned why would someone come to a very small lake in central Illinois to crappie fish??? It's because people are putting valuable information on the inter web for everyone and their brother to see that's why. My point was with the size of some of the smaller lakes around they can't stand the pressure that crappie.com puts on them like a Shelbyville, Rend, Kentucky, Mark Twain and the list goes on and on. Sangchris is feeling the effects of crappie.com right now. There is a reason we are catching over 200 short fish per day and one of those reasons, but not the only reason is crappie.com. I have no problems helping people out with lake info and like I already said I realize the lakes are public so there isn't a lot anyone can do to stop some people, I just don't see the point in telling the world where your at, what your using, how deep, what cove, what point, etc...other than to get that pat on the back...that look at me look what I did response from people.
The resaon people come to Sanchris this time of year is because there isnt much of any place else to go to. I dont believe eveyone is catching 200 crappie a day as the state only shocked up 11 per hour last fall in their survey. I go to other places to crappie fish and glad I have the oppertunity to go. As far as pressure i would say the pressure here dosent even compare to places like Sardis as they fish it hard every day 9 months or more and here 3 months for Sangchris in the winter and then crappie fishing tapers off. I wish they would let bigger motors on in the winter at Sangchris and coffeen so that guys could run no wake and be able to fish. I even metioned it to one of the heads at the dnr and he didnt think it was a bad idea probably wont happen but I hope it will. Come To Crappie camp at Shelbyville this spring Slab 187 and meet everyone and the several from out of state that come
I still think Slab should make it so you have to be a member to see any of this...
what difference would that make really Jeff, somebody joins but never posts anything. Only way to make it really work would be to make everyone be a paid subscriber, that would keep alot of people away
Sorry, I've been helping to prepare for my Grandson's 1st birthday party. I'm worn out. I think some of these posts have been directed toward me, so I'm obligated to respond. Where do I start. First of all, if anybody thinks that I was proud of, or bragging about having to catch 200 fish in order to have 10 fish over 10", well, all I can say is, you need to catch more fish. I was only trying to point out my keeper to non-keeper ratio. Secondly, I've been fishing Sangchris for over 30 years and yes, there have been many days that the parking lot was plum full. That was 10 years before Crappie.Com was ever thought of. Now then, Serious Fisherman. Yea, I'm a pretty serious fisherman. Serious enough that I really don't care whether there are 5 boats in the lot or 50. I also have a resume' if you need one. You show me yours' and I'll show you mine. There's another philosophy that I just don't understand. Why in the world would you give me or any other stranger any information through a P.M. that you're not willing to put on the open forum? My guess is to create a "strawman" just like the dreaded lurker to keep from sharing any information anyway. That's OK, it's your business. But then I ask myself, why are people on here whining about a post that was 3 weeks old? So.....I have to look at your past posts, just to see if you have EVER given out ANY information to contribute anything positive. Or, have you ever fished out of state or, God forbid, ever asked for lake information on Crappie.com. OOPS. Maybe you need to read your old posts. Looks to me if you've never added anything positive, but continue to read and comment on people's posts, YOU MAY JUST BE A LURKER. I'll promise you this. I will never send anyone on here a P.M. begging for information. I also promise that I will post whenever I feel like it, whatever information that I feel posting and on any lake that I choose to fish.
BUD YORK
I just wanna go fishing !
X2 theysaid.
x3.....
Bubbabeck, the answer to you question is no, I have not fished any of the.lakes you mentioned. I have fished Weiss Lake in Alabama for the last 6-7 years and every year I hire a local guide. This helps.me as I don't have to drag my boat all the way down there and worry about anything related to boats. Also it benefits me as I don't have to waste time searching for fish. It benefits the guide and the local economy which has little else besides eco-tourism to support it. CROPEE7, did you vote for Obama too? That's got to be the last piece of this puzzle.....
Wow, now I have heard it all.....LOL.....the reason you have the wrong attitude about fishing information is because you voted for a certain individual in an election. If that is how a person tries to get their point across I guess they never actually had a valid point to begin with.
Kenny, you obviously have no clue what sarcasm is. My point was made and I believe it was very clear. Whether it was valid or not is a matter of opinion. The correlation between CROPEE7 and Obama was simple but let me spell it out for a simpleton such as yourself. You see Obama likes to take from the hard working people of this awesome country and give it to all the deadbeats sponging off the handouts because its "easier to get paid by the govt for being lazy, than to have to go out and earn it". So you see Simple Kenny, the way CROPEE7 hands out these type of posts, is in direct correlation with President Obama and his administration. I just figured since he was utilizing the same program, he must've voted for him as well. I hope this helps. :banghead:
you guys need some sun........
Agreed fishervet!!!
Easy fellas. No need for politics in this site. Keep it fishing. I'll let it go for now but getting out of hand.
Yeah...easy fellas. It's hitting a little to close to home for ol dkb23...
Nope. Not close to home at all for me. There are rules to play by and don't need people like you starting crap and stirring the pot. That's all. Like I said. Keep it fishing. Or find a political site to stir it up. And for 10 posts on this sight you sure are confident in what hits home for me???? Hmm?
Why can't we all just get along??? I always thought that helping another is what the Good Lord wanted us to do. I think it is called the "Golden Rule".
Ok boys here we go. Now you have done it. Making comments about one of our Moderators. He is one of the Moderators and it his job to try and keep this site clean. He just said lets keep it fishing because that is what this site is about. If you don't like that someone posts their catch on here then go to another site. I admit sometimes I think people may post a few too many catches on here but it is a public site and public water. If you don't like it then move on. As for taking shots at people, I will not tolerate that at all. If you want to stay a member of this site I suggest you keep your comments to yourself. This site will stay open for now but if it continues it will be deleted or locked. Read the board rules that I posted if you don't understand. It's that simple. There that is my rant for the day.
Have a better day,
CX.
