Warning to newcomers on Crescent lake

I just wanted to place this message to new people that may be fishing the mouth of crescent lake, deadlake, and haw creek run . If your coming in off crescent lake heading for haw creek run, there is a log that resides almost in the middle of the channel. It has been there for many years and it unforgiving. My brother and I hit this log back in 95 at 80+ mph in our gambler bass boat. Luckily, we were not hurt and the boat only suffered a small bruise to the bottom of the hull. This christmas day, my daughter and I watched an unsuspecting boat hit the log at speed. You could hear the sound echo all down dead lake run. The people in the boat were not injured badly, just a little bruised from being thrown around. I did talk to them as they were new to the lake. They said they didn't see it when they came in. That's because if it's somewhat choppy, you may not see it. And if the water level is high, it's just under the water where you can't see it. If you are new to the lake and heading this direction, please slow way down and take a look for it at least. Then you will know where it is for further reference. I am only posting this because I don't want to see or hear of a bad situation. I would think the army corp. of engineers could remove this beast, but it has not happened in all these years, so it may not be an issue they are going to pursue. Tight lines. and be safe.

It is sure nice of you to give a heads up on this situation. I can only assume that there are many passing in the vicinity of this thing and here is my take on it-
I hate to simplify things too much, but why not mark it? :confused: A couple old boat bouys and a spike with decent nylon rope should stay put .
Wouldn't it have been neat if someone had done that the day before you hit it?
Sure not preachin here but waiting on the government to do what's right has never worked for us in the past and I'm sure won't work in the future . ole Mike

Several years ago we had a guy in Lake Eufula that passed us going about 60-70MPH. He almost hits us and sprayed water all over us in his turn to keep from hitting us in the rear of the boat. My fishing partner (retired Army Ranger, me Air Force retired wimp) followed him about 5 miles up the river and when he pulled into a creek, we pulled along side. My crazy-ass army guy jump from our boat, grabbed the key out of his ignition and threw in it the lake. Jumped back in the boat, said a few words about his Mother and off we went.
Why in the hell do you need to go 80+ on the lake? I've never understood it?

One more thing. Maybe Obama will hear your requests and remove the stump. Or, maybe slow down, enjoy the lake and watch for those stumps, and others on the lake.

It would be a good jesture to mark the log with PVC or a mil jug. Anyone can do that.

The log was marked by us with a big 5" pvc tube. However, someone took it out. Believe me, others have tried to mark the log, but some people remove the markings. I put a buoy on it once before. Someone stole it.
Don't wait for obama. Fixing a little stump in a creek in florida is not on his agenda. Just watch out for it. That's all I can do to help. If I could cut it out, I would. But I don't have that type of equipment. All I can say is slow down and look for it. Once you know it's there, you'll stay clear of it. The FWC knows it's there, but they ignore it.

OK, I have read the post and still unsure. Is it a LOG or a STUMP???? If it is a log, can it be roped and pulled (either off to the side or swung around) so as to better aid navigation?? Has some one called and let the FWC know that people are getting hurt and damaging boats?? Lets start something that will be benificial to us. Shoot, give me a GPS location and I will start calling to see what can be done. I do not want to get hurt or put a nice hole in the boat, so willing to help where I can. May never fish the lake, but would also not want to hear about someone getting hurt or putting a hole in their boat.

If I'm thinking of the same one as Crappie Time, it's a partial blown down tree that has been there for quite a few years. As your heading into Dead lake from Cresent lake, the entrance to Haw creek will be on your right (South). the depth is over 20ft in spots. I think the blow down is in about 7 ft of water. As mentioned above there has been more marker jugs and pcv pipes put around it that you can shake a stick at. For some reason people feel the need to pick them up.

I have it marked in my chartplotter, next time I'm down there I'll get the gps numbers and post them.
