Anybody heard anything else on whether or not they are going to build here?
There was an article in the Democrat-Gazette this past Saturday about it. They are supposed to break ground this November. It will be one of the biggest stores. I think it said it would have a 10 acre CRAPPIE pond with free fishing, climbing wall, place to test boats, tank to test scuba gear, and a bunch of other stuff. I think they said it would be three times the size of McCain Mall. Something like 2700 jobs, and an unreal number of parking spaces.
I just wonder why in the world "A leader in Conservation" woudl want to build on a site that is a wetland? I mean come on... Lead in Conservation? I think not, a leader in " I want some $$$"
On the other hand, I heard that the contract has been signed for the deal in Memphis at the pyramid with them.
I agree with you. Building on a wetlands site just doesn't seem to fit with their alleged "conservation" image. I imagine there are many people who are looking to make a lot of money out of this deal.
It's hard to believe that this is the best location that they could find to build on. Oh well, some call it progress.
What town in Arkansas are they locating?
I think that artical was written with tongue in cheek. After all it was written by Otis the cat.
According to the article (written by Otus the Head Cat) the Billy Bass Pro Shops will have the following:
20 acre crappie lake
2.93 million square foot facility (4x McCain Mall)
45 foot waterfall
3.5 miles of equestrian trails
skeet-shooting range
two acre float pond for testing boats
6 story climbing wall
180,000 gallon freshwater aquarium to test scuba gear
ATV track
archery course
white-water kayak run
52 foot long mounted Billy Bass singing "Don't worry, be happy"
At the end of Otus the Head Cat's articles, there is always the following disclaimer: "Fayetteville-born Otus the Head Cat's award-winning column of humorous fabrication appears every Saturday"
I had this article read to me before and didn't realize what column it was printed in. We'll see how much of it winds up being true.
Just did a search for "Billy Bass Pro Shops", and didn't find anything. Maybe the whole story was made up?
