Looking for opinions on a jig From a fly pattern

Who was I talking to the other day on this board about the Red Eye Damsel?

I took this fly pattern called Red Eye Damsel and tied it on a 1/32oz. jig and kind of like the concept. So I would love to know what others think, please tell me if you like it.

Yes it's wire and adds a segmented look and strength to help hold the body.

Skip, thats a looker! people underestimate an unpainted jighead too. I usually coat them with sally hansens clear so it won't turn dark.

Have you though t of using a red bead-chain for the eyes? Would that be easier, or not make much of a difference?

This was just a pattern that was fly of the week and caught my eye. It could be tied with bead chain eyes, but I kind of like the chenille eyes tied the way the fly was. Also not sure I would use a bead chain just behind a jig head, but on the fly a bead chain eye would add a tiny bit of weight. Actually after thinking about it even on the fly if I wanted to add weight then I would probably use the dumbbell eyes.

Nice jig!!! The only thing I can think of is a little shorter on the tail, I know the marabou pulses in the water it only looks like the tail would flair too much and the fish might miss getting hooked.

Of course I could be wet behind the ear's and you'll take it out and slaughter them with it and I'd be the horses patute LOL.

I see lots of people that say that about tail length, but I don't find it true. I know a guide on this lake that uses mostly craft fur and he uses the full length of Select Craft fur and that makes a long tail. Since crappie eat bait fish head first it will not make a difference IMHO.

Also I have lot of jigs with different tail lengths and find my marabou with long tails are not a problem at all and some are 2" or a little more past the hook. I tie most shorter for people that want it like that, but for my own use I like them a bit ling and flowing. I do have both long and shorter tail in my box, but have not had trouble with short strikes except from bream and they like picking at the tails of worms and such.
