Does anyone know of any poor man tournaments around? I used to fish some crappie tournaments at Rough River but wanted to know if anyone has heard of any other ones around. If no one knows about any, any thoughts about putting some together? Some $25 to $50 per boat tournaments are fun and I believe would be fun to have across the commonwealth.

I'd be all for all of us trying to put something together. I know the guys on the Tenn board are organizing a Crappie club and planning a tournament on Reelfoot. Weather permitting I may try to join them.
It would be a good time and good way to get to meet everyone.

lets do it! i have been wanting to try it, maybe having more than one a year at different lakes, i will be more than happy to help.
We have one a month on KY lake (twin lakes crappie club) are next one is Feb 9,if anyone is interested just pm me and i will fill you in.
I am interested also as long as they are geared toward fun, family and friendship. I guess I would be more interested in "get together" fishing rather than tournaments. We had some small "country store" tournaments on Lake Malone but everyone still tooked them pretty seriously. Too seriously! Me included!
Did they have crappie tournaments at Malone? I didn't know it was that good of a lake for that, I know that they do have some bass tourneys though.
I am all for the fun also. If we did a tournament I would want it real cheap, because I am just a poor crappie fisherman. A thought might be to have one in different regions of the state.
Eddy Creek Marina used to have one several years ago. The entry fee was only $10 or $15 dollars and the prize money was distributed among the first 5 finishers and just about everyone else received some type of gift certificate that had been donated by local merchants and bait shops. They consisted of everything from a free meal, $10 dollars worth of gas, $10 dollar coupon at the local grocery, free baits, or maybe a hat. They were really neat tournaments with just everyday weekend fishermen and no big money at stake. Once the cost went up to $50 a boat the big boys came in with their big boats and spider rigs and the little guy didn't have a chance. I think that if you could keep it cheap and spread the entry fee amoung several places, it would really be a success.
