I’ve got some small spoons I’m thinking of trying tomorrow.
You folks that fish spoons , do you use a swivel , say about 12” above the spoon ? Or is it necessary?
I use them when fishing spinners but prefer not to with spoons if it’s not needed.

Gillchaser,
I fish small spoons quite a bit and only use nylon lines. If a spoon is run at proper speed it wobbles and will not twist line, if reeled too fast and spins it will twist line. Sometimes you are in a hurry to recast and wind too fast, so I always tie a Raven micro swivel about 2ft. above spoon. They come in 4 sizes, all are very small and I use them for most lures if line twist is a concern. Hope this helps some.
Same as what moon said. I been fishing spoons out here for the past 6 weeks with no issues...some as small as 0.5 grams. I don't use the swivels on spoons. Most fish spoons way too fast.
Regards
Geese, I though you were supposed to use swivels! I used to use then a lot and used the swivels with a snap to hook right onto that ring that was on spoons. Sounds like I did it wrong for years! :-)
Not wrong but that way adds a lot of hardware in the wrong place, to most folks way of thinking. My thought is that the weight so close may change the action of the spoon. I have a few ball bearing swivels that I use about two feet from the bait and have watched some gills pay attention to the swivel.
When I start seeing that more often than not, and they act like your lure is not even there, I grab one of these little guys. No fly rod, just run a few feet behind a weighted strike indicator. Almost seems like cheating OR maybe just getting even!Attachment 442001Attachment 442002
No harm in a micro swivel. I use them with a FC leader if running mono and always caught trout with them. Makes for faster leader changes as well. One can place a rubber bobber stopper above the microswivel to protect the rod tip guide.
