Fish of the Day
Most of my catches locally are small , with an occasional decent one .
Like this morning, I only caught five fish , three small gills , a small bass , and one shellcracker that put a nice bend in my St Croix Avid Panfish UL rod .
Rather posting pics of little ones, ( unless they’re exceptionally pretty) I’m going to highlight the “ Fish of the Day” .
When the sunlight hits him just right , it seems to glow .
So here’s today’s candidate , the shellcracker . Caught on a 1/64 jighead with a 1” bluegill color curlytail with its tail highlighted chartreuse with my Zoom marker pen .

Real nice fish and a good idea. I’ll probably start doing that when my pet fish come back home. River might have moved em to another county.

It was 56 degrees this morning when I left around 9:30 headed to a local water reservoir. The one that has a section of riprap.
When I arrived I found the water was down by a least three feet and most of the rocks I’ve been fishing were high and dry .
Luckily, the rocks went a little farther than I’d been fishing , but that meant I had to stand on the rocks to fish . Not the safest footing for an old guy . :)
I took two rods a 6’ TFO UL paired with a Daiwa Exceler LT 1000d and a 6’ St Croix Avid ULF paired with a Daiwa Legalis LT 1000d . Both were spooled with 2# Green mist P-Line .
I fished 1/64 jigs with different Bobby garland itty bit baits .
I tried long casts , but the six fish I caught were caught jigging the edge of the rocks that were still covered with water .
Four were small warmouth , one green sunfish, and this little fellow .
I’m not certain what species he is , but I’m thinking it’s a spotted sunfish.
This is only the fourth of these I can remember catching. All but one were this size , with one being slightly larger. I don’t think they grow very big .
