After taking my boy out Sunday, I decided to take a day off yesterday to hit the lake. With an exceptionally busy schedule lately (work, two younger boys, just started my MBA, and my wife tore her knee up and is about to have surgery #2), I haven’t had any time to get out, so I decided it was time. As I am typically a longliner, I’ve been trying to focus on single pole. I had heard a couple of good reports on docks recently, I set out shooting docks. I worked a ton of docks, but could only ever find a few here and there. It seems this was not the day for docks, so I had to change up and went scouting a bit deeper. Found some good brush at 18-22 fow and THUMP! Found em! Seems the rain had pushed them deeper. I talked to another guy at the ramp when I came in and he found the same thing. He had been catching them off docks, but today nothing- had to go deep. Fish were also found suspending at 15 ft over trees/brush in 30 fow. In the mix, caught mostly smaller 10-11 inch fish, but had several nice ones over a pound. Not much in between. The highlight of the day was this nice 15 1/2 inch slab that weighed in at 1.56 lbs. So much fun jigging brush and having one like that hammer it! Another great day on the water.
