Opinions and thoughts about 2 and 3 piece rods their pros, cons, characteristics and behaviors as well as their different uses.
True that MOST 12s are 2 piece, MOST 14s + are 3 pieces. There is much work into design , materials, development and testing of these modern marvels that provide us with dinner.

I use BnM 14 ft 3 piece rods for rigging and they work good.I pretty much never take them apart and they stay rigged up on my boat.
I can only tell you about BnM PST and BnM Capps/Coleman 14' 3pc rods, as that's all I have/use.
The bend from a 1/2oz weight is barely discernible between the two, but go up in weight and the C/C rods will bend much farther. You can also notice more "bounce" and recovery time from a C/C rod, when the boat is rocking from waves. They both have worked well for pushing jigs/cranks, which is what I mostly do, but I was told by my Spider Rigging mentor that the C/C rods would show light bites better when Spider Rigging, because of their lighter action tips.
I recently pushed jigs with 1.5oz weights ... running them 20ft deep @ ~1mph. The PST rod bent a mere couple of inches, while the Capps/Coleman rods bent down over 8 inches. (just to give you an idea of the softness of the C/C tips vs the PST's tip)
Only 2pc rods I have are 10' or shorter. They are the rods I started with for Spider Rigging, but I was always in someone else's boat and fishing out of the back, so I don't have enough experience with them to judge them against each other. Their only cons, that affect me, is their length isn't sufficient to fish them straight out the front ... which is why I went to the 14' rods. I can, and do, use them on occasion along with the 14' rods ... but only as the far right/left rod in the spread, due to their length not being sufficient to put the line out of the way of the trolling motor when moving faster than 0.4mph (which is the high end of Spider Rigging speed, but below the low end of Pushing speed).
I think the cost of shipping is what drives the longer rods to be 3 peice. 6' long packages must be the cost breakline.

As a general rule, I think fewer pieces are better. However, as you note above, most rods over 14' will be 3-piece.Quote:

Thank you. Just starting out spider rigging. I was thinking 12 footers would be easy to handle and less stressful. Leaning heavy words jenko spider troll Possibly also using them with crankbaits too
