Going at it all wrong, find a host, let them decide on the lake (they the ones doing the planning so it needs to be convenient for them), then let them list dates that works for them and chose.
There is a reason NO ONE is willing to host, too much griping about the way it's done. People that do nothing and sometimes don't even show up want a voice.
In my OPINION if you aren't gonna help with whatever it is hush, attend if you can and don't stir crap for the ones working things out.
Armyman done a great job last fall, don't know what was said to him but we haven't heard from him since on here.
Just my two cents, but Mississippi Crappie camps have become so popular (mainly due to the hard work of those who plan and run them) that it's become more than one person can handle. I know other states have a committee of sorts that consists of a few people. One person is in charge of reserving a site and setting a date. Another person plans a meal. Yet another person plans different presentations, raffles and door prizes. Someone else is in charge of organizing a clean up crew. Kentucky does it this way and they have one of the most organized and informative shindigs I have ever attended.
Then Missouri has a huge get together twice a year at Truman Lake. Their camps aren't as structured as Kentucky's but it is always a huge hit. They usually get together on Friday night and have a pot luck cook out. They will have several grills going and you just bring what you would like to cook. Then Saturday after a day of fishing, they put on a big fish fry with everyone bringing a dish of help cook. They don't worry about give aways or raffles and everyone still has a blast just visiting and enjoying fellowship.
I guess it can be successful being very structured with enough volunteers to break up the chores or it can be casual and still be a big success.
Enid, Cossar State Park was voted in as fall camp location years ago. All we need is a host and a date. Somewhere in the middle of October has been the date voted in in years past.
Being a host takes a lot of extra time online, going to stores and on the phone gathering needed items for a better camp.
I'll repeat what John said.

Here is my grip from the last year we had fish cooked at camp. I planned to help where I could. I had cut 20 lbs potatoes for fries. I get to the cookout on time. The fryers are empty, not filled or fired up. That took some 30 minutes extra before we can start cooking. Fish are dumped out of bags, water drained very little then battered. They weren't rinsed or dried any at all. After talking to some that brought fish and the way they put them up I wished I was on the battering table. A spare gas bottle was needed and it took some 20 minutes to replace it, that was a cut into cooking time. It wasn't 4 pm yet and some were wanting food out of the cookers faster than we could cook it. One cooker takes 8 gallons of oil another takes 9. It takes 3 to 4 hours for oil to cool enough to pour back into the plastic jugs. The oil needs to be strained then filtered/polished and stored in a freezer until next time.
Committees, thanks Speck.
If fish is voted in for the camp meal I'll cut fries. I'll get to the cookout early enough to have cookers ready for cook time. I'll prep fries and fish for cooking.
I will not cook.
Isn't Cossar now charging a dollar a head to enter now? Just sayin.

i'm kinda new on here and have never been to any kind of gathering so i cant comment on whats the best way to go about doing something like that. However i am a top notch grunt and would love to help with the workload. i got 2, 4 gallon deep fryers, a dozen bottles, and an inside contact to get me discounted peanut oil. i also got killer apron thats permanently stained with fish fry and grease and i'm not afraid to use it. if someone decides to do one all i need is a months notice and i will do whatever im told.
Lawdy!!!! Listen to Rees. I'm organizing a camp this spring in Alabama from 2.5 hrs away. It is tuffer that way. I preferred Martin being my home lake but the majority ruled. Still possible though
AS soon as a Committee or person takes charge , Let myself or G know and I or we will post it on a sticky.
