I've been reading some articles on Grenada Lake in Mississippi. It's possibly the number one crappie lake in the country. Has anyone fished there and if so did you hire a guide? I'm debating bringing my boat vs a day with a guide or both. Sometime around March during the spawn next year. So yes it's about bragging and catching a monster sac a lait, one Ill likely never catch around south La. Is that cheating?
Not cheating in my book! I have used guides to learn areas I wanted to fish. Just remember this, a guide needs to know what it is you're looking to do, whether it be size or numbers. I'd also suggest doing your homework. Good luck.
I would hire a guide if I were you....You better call now as they book up quick. Go to the Mississippi board and there is a sticky at the top of the page Mississippi Guides listing....they are all good.

John, Rees Guide....guides on Grenada ......Its a big lake and its a tough lake in the wind. John knows it like the back of his hand.
Been there a couple times without a doubt the most difficult place I have ever fished. So yes whether bringing a boat or not if hiring a guide is in the budget then definitely do that As said they book up well in advance so try to book one now. Same with the cabins book well in advance. As I said one of the more difficult places to fish but yes one of the top crappie lakes. It's difficult at least during spring when most people go because it is extremely dirty and when water is drawn down the wind will destroy you like no place you have ever been Also keep in mind it is a place of quality fish not quantity in general. I'm hoping to go this spring. As for catching a monster no question it is one of the premier places but also consider poverty point in louisiana if you haven't been. A much easier place to fish with pretty much the same size crappie or close to it as grenada. Having fished both and keep up with both poverty easier place to catch the 3 lb fish. But everyone should experience grenada at least once just go there understanding that you are more likely to be humbled than not. Tryst me on that from experience
Hire a guide and fish a couple of days. I guide part time and this spring should be awesome, but with the water levels changing as much as they do from year to year coming blind can be a crap shoot. We are at 194 on the gauges rite now and may not even be at 200 by the middle of April and on the other hand may be at 217, all depends on the rain.

FYI. Your comments are right on for most places as for looking for things on a map. Unfortunately grenada is a different animal. No marinas no piers no lay downs. Just two river channels with little fingers off them with a lot of timber and sand bars and dunes etc. it is honestly a place like no other and a must fish if you can
